Okay, got my ECU and V1.2 unit back this morning. BTW, from the time I walked out of FedEx to the time I got my ECU back was less than 48 hours. I did Overnight with delivery before 10:30am, just FYI. That was from NC to AZ; quick work KTuner!
Loaded up the software, flashed the Stage 1 tune & headed out for a drive. My first impressions: Significantly improved throttle response & reduced turbo lag; well done. Power comes on SO smoothly, I did not break my tires loose once. I am on 275/30 Pilot Sport 4S rubber, but did not floor it in first gear (I rarely ever do.) I'd wager that most all of the tire spinning will be solved with upgraded tires, warmer temps & a more progressive throttle application. Also, they have a tune that limits torque in first gear for all you lead-footed, stop light drag maniacs.
This is a really good tune by KTuner. I'll say it again; the power comes on SOO smoothly, it feels like a more refined sports car now. At WOT in 3,4,5 you are WELL over 100 so damn fast and it pulls all the way to fuel cut-off. No more running out of breath after 6k RPM. This is a really good tune; smooth, refined power delivery that pulls the entire rev range. Great job KTuner!
Also very interesting to see the data logging. My IAT on the highway were in the 60's (!!!) with the PRL IC. PRL did their homework on this IC. Sitting at stop lights will spike temps into the 110 degree range, but once you start to move IAT drop into the 80's within seconds. Cruising around at 45 mph (45 ambient temps) it was consistently in the low 80 degree range.
While I was headed back to the house on the highway, I came up behind a new Mustang GT with a license plate that said KONG!. I'm assuming he meant King Kong? I guess he saw me behind him and he downshifted and juiced it to let me know that my little Jap wagon was in the USA. I did NOT down shift (5th gear), put the pedal down & he did not pull an inch on me. I think he was more surprised than I was. Traffic got heavy, so no more playing around for me, but he got stuck trying to weave through traffic and came up on me a little later. I noticed he DEF had done some tuning (looked like an IC through the front grill, so not sure what he was running, but he was fast as shit.) He passed me in the slow lane on the right & was FLYING. Traffic in front of him had slowed down for an exit and he was going so fast he had to take it into the break down lane to avoid a nasty accident. KTuned Type R is ruffling some feathers already. Glad that dude didn't ruin the day for a bunch of people today.
