Hey Everyone!

My name is Nick and I am the proud owner of a 92 Prelude! I know I know, not an X, BUT hear me out!

A good friend Thusee (on this forum) has persuaded me to finally get rid of the old technology from the 90's and move on to the new great platforms you all get to experience now. With that being said, those of you who are knowledgable with the Type R engines, and the new tech in general will be key pieces to this build being completed.

Plan: 1992 Honda Prelude, K20c1 swapped. Front Mount FWD. Factory Look. End goal 650+hp.

Ive started a 3D model of my engine bay, and should have it completed within the next few weeks. I was hoping that one of you rockstars out there would be able to provide me with some long-block dimensions. the more precise the better, however even a rough measurement would let me start figuring out what needs to be cut, and what needs to be custom made. Length, total depth w/manifolds, height from Pan to VC, circumference of trans etc. I will accept any and all information regarding engine dimensions. I will even gladly accept engine bay measurements such as distance between shock towers and Rad support to Firewall.

I know there is an EG build going on right now, so I know I can make this work!

Lastly, if there is any info you know (links to threads or other websites even) regarding the new fuel system being utilized in the X engines please let me know ! I will accept anything that will help!

Pretty awesome that you plan to do this swap it sure isn’t gonna be cheap! I’ll see what I can do about getting you measurements since I’ll be getting myself under the car anyway. Also save yourself a lot of the fueling headache by going with port injection it’ll make your 650whp goal a lot easier

Thank you so much ! Definitely going to be a money pit. We’ll see how long it takes my Wife to call me out on this build now haha.

Keep me posted on what you find out regarding dimensions! I appreciate everything you can share!

Thanks for the fuelling heads up, I’ll start diving into the specifics of it and see how I can blend it into the prelude!

I suggest to get feedback from the guys at Hasport, when it comes to mounts, same at Humble performance. This later might be able to give you a deeper input.

Since your plan is to reach the 600 club, I would just go with an aftermarket ECU, however, you should keep an eye on the Hondata fuel upgrade system development. If you want to address that part by yourself as well, perhaps you can get advice from Ty Williams, he has a different set up.

Lastly, please find the way to retrofit the whole front end suspension of the Type R on your car, whichI think it is ultimately the real beauty of this car, have you driven one already? Suspension & grip on this thing is unreal!

I think this will be a great sleeper!

I'm fairly sure there's enough room in there so just a matter of making all the systems interface. My one bit of advice - make sure to keep your A/C - or, rather, make the AC work. CTR uses R1234 so try to make the R134 in the Prelude work so you can maintain expansion valves and a Prelude compressor. . . it's also way cheaper as a refrigerant. As cool as it is to get on the road, it'll be even cooler to be able to drive it year round if you want. Might have to pull an A/C compressor from a 2002+ k-series Honda/Acura so you get the mounting and rotation correct...another opportunity to model up a mounting solution!

Driveshafts will be a little bit of a challenge but not too bad. It might be something you can start working on models for.

I'd also like to see a 1.5T swapped in there if someone else wants to take on a similar project with lower overall goals-

I have sent Hasport an inquiry through their website regarding this build but have not heard from them about it yet. Fingers are crossed. I haven't heard of HumblePerformance, so I really appreciate you throwing that out there ! I will definitely reach out to them as-well and see what their thoughts are.

In RE: to the fuel system, I would like to keep it as simple as possible. Which standalone systems are currently working effectively with the K20C1? AEM? Im sure Hondata will have some new stuff coming so I will also keep tabs on them. I like their products, and ran an S300 in the Prelude for a while without issues, so working with their products again is an option I would lean towards. I did not know they were in development so I will look into that further!

I'll reach out to both Ty and Luke to try to get some tips and info and see which direction they steer me in!

Until you mentioned the whole front suspension thing, It never really crossed my mind, however, it seems like it would make the build the best it could possibly be. The amount of R&D Honda put into the front end is amazing, and I would love to be able to utilize it all if at all possible. Im not worried about cutting and fabbing if need be, so I will definitely add the suspension components to the calculations and see how much work it would take to fit. The Wheel base width on the CTR is about 4 inches wider than the 4th Gen prelude which is great, because i can manipulate the body to accommodate the extra width.

The main difference between just the swap and the whole front setup would just be a matter of buying a front clip vs buying the motor.

I have yet to drive one, but Im going to book a bunch of test drives at dealerships if I can to get a feel for the vehicle itself.

Ill keep you in the loop with the things I hear from the guys you mentioned !

Room wise I am almost certain I can make it fit! I believe my main issue will be the steering rack, but If i manage to use most of the front end of a CTR, i may be able to make something work by utilizing the CTR steering rack.

RE: AC, I pulled the whole AC system out of the vehicle a few years back. Living in Ontario, we get some pretty nasty winters, and I managed to score a rust free chassis (literally not a speck) so winter driving is off limits. Driving in the rain is almost pushing it for me. It would be nice to have AC but I think I would be okay with it not being in the vehicle. It would mostly be a weekend queen, so Ill make my wife suffer in the heat while were cruising LOL.

Im hoping that Driveshaftshop will work with me in the future when i have the engine in and have solid measurements for the driveshafts needed. However if im able to use the CTR ones I will go that route for sure!

That was my other option, as it seems the L15's are a pretty stout motor with some capability. I drove @Thusee Si on his tune and it was very impressive, and that was with his full interior. If there is no way to get the K20C work, the L15 will be the next option.

I do have Thusee old prelude as well, so If everything goes well with this swap, I might do a second one, making it a 5th Gen Prelude L15 build. But that will be a long ways from now!

Measurements are in!! I wouldn’t say these are 100% perfect since some parts are hard to get a perfect measurement for so give or take an inch
