All the news and excitement of Honda's Civic Type R was at fever pitch. I too was caught up in all the hyperbole and was waiting to see what the reality was gonna be. The Type r was announced to be on sale in July and I had to have one. But, to many peoples dismay, dealers were allready snatching away dreams with massive markups on cars that were not even on sale yet. I research and found a back woods dealer in Tennessee's truck country and went and put down money on thier first R to be delivered.
The day came, the call happened and I jumped in my trade and headed out to get my R. I had never been excited so much to buy a car in my life. So was time go out with the old and aquire the new.
So I jumped in my fire opal pearl Si and headed out.
I get to the dealer, I'm looking around for the R and no where to be found. They had to hide it because the showroom was full of guys with blank check making offers to buy it out from me. So they take me to back where she was hidden and there she was . . . The first time I saw her.
So paper work done, money paid, wide open highway ahead I take my new R home and get her acquainted with her new home.
So like all new owners I get out the camera, take pictures and join forums and groups to talk and share with other new owners. I go a bit over board and garner some accusations from my girlfriend of loving my car more then I love her. Who knows lol you be the judge.
Then on my third day of ownership I decide to have fun and drive by a Honda dealer that hasn't got an R or seen one. Well I emptied the dealership.
So got some fun under my belt, time to do some changes. So I turned my R into a hovercar.
Lol I decided to get different tires and sell the ones it came with. So with about 500ish miles she got new shoes and I was off to meet another R owner to sell my tires.
Tires in the hatch and some energy drink off I go to meet another R owner.
With 4 tires in the hatch I arrive at my destination and behold I see my first other Type R . . . Twins.
Meet and greet done, tires sold, new friend made, back home we go.
Time for more changes, all led lights on back, smoked side markers and underseat subs to make things cozy.
Now with all goodies in hand, I give her a bath and head off to a cars and coffee and.... R number two. But owner was not real friendly and not the talkative type who left when my R was getting the attention
So cars and coffee done and on to next adventure.
Being on the forums and talking with people one day lead to a surprise. I hear a knock on my door and open the boot to a really nice guy who stopped by and .... r number 3 I encounter.
Another good time in the books another friend made. It is time for a good old back woods curve road performance drive .
Time for first oil change and long and behold dealer has a R in.
R number 4, but typical dealer B.S. was driven by managers daughter for 2200 miles, front end curbed, water spots, tires wore down and wanting full price claiming "new" cause not titled. But still R number 4.
Time for the first recall, she needs a new harness. So I drop her off and go for a walk across town while I wait. Well what would you know I'm at target and a R pulls in. I go to talk to owner and explain I have one and it's in shop. He offers me ride back to dealer and then we get some pictures... funny how things work out.
Everyday with the R seems to be an adventure. It's the days I get in, put it in R+ mode, turn the driving assist fully off and then drive it like you stole it comes on the radio that makes things fun.
Who knows what adventures lay ahead for me and old 141. But will be good times I'm sure.
