I had some issues that I've diagnosed as a textbook thermostat failure, but I'm unsure if it is covered under my powertrain warranty. Has anyone had some experience with it?

Interesting question, warranty manual says under the Engine section that these things are covered. It doesn't include thermostat though.

Cylinder block and head and all internal parts, timing gears and gaskets, timing chain/belt and cover, flywheel, valve covers, oil pan, oil pump, intake and exhaust manifolds, engine mounts, engine/powertrain control module, water pump, fuel pump, seals and gaskets.

However, Canadian warranty info page (can't imagine why the one for the USA might differ greatly) https://www.honda.ca/owners/warranty/coverage-new-comprehensive

says that thermostat is only covered under 3 yr warranty and not the 5 yr powertrain warranty.

So I sense you may be out of luck..... but ask the dealership anyways.

Are you under 36K? if so then it should be covered under the bumper to bumper.
Checked with service and I should be good to go.
I just had bad memories with a toyota and that not being covered for whatever ungodly reason
