Is the suspension made to handle heavy luggage? I got three checked back and two carry on in the rear of me CTR with one of the back seat fold down. Complying with the airlines standards I have about 200lbs of luggage one child passenger, and two adults that average 170lbs.

You should be just fine. I carried 4 wheels, 1 jack, and lots of tools for my track day. I drove from seattle to central California. No problem at all. However, be sure to drive in R mode to handle those weight better. Cheers

There is a weight limit. Mainly due to the tires. Limit is a total of 680 lbs.

That’s a good point. I think most people overlook this one. Maybe would be a good idea to add a couple more lbs in the tires

I was just going to say... car will handle it. Raise tire pressures a bit. Don't have to max it out but it won't hurt.

You have to figure Honda counted on 4 full sized adults (250lbs each at least) plus some junk in the trunk :p so I'd bet you're safe to carry 1200-1300lbs. Will the rear suspension like it is a different question.

On a previous 8th gen civic SI sedan I got about 2000sq ft of flooring in the car and drove it over the Sierra Nevada mountains with my and the wife in the car so i have no doubt you're well within safety limits.

Different tires. I think it’s the manual that I read the low profile tires reduce weight capacity. My Manila is 3000 miles away though.

Is the limit due to the tires?

Continental's SportContact6 has a load rating of 1323lbs per tire according to TireRack. The car weights 3117 pounds with a 60/40 split on weight, so if I'm not mistaken that means there are 1870lbs going to the front wheels (935lbs per wheel) and 1247lbs going to the rear (623 per wheel). I'm going to assume that any weight you add to the car will be towards the rear wheels (though this isn't necessarily true, some will go towards the front) which means each of the rear wheels can still bear an additional 700 pounds each (1400lbs total). A similar approach shows that the front wheels can take an additional 388 each (776lbs total).

This has always lead me to believe that the reason was due to the suspension, but I could be wrong.

 I don’t think factoring in 4 Weight Watchers loading up a Type R was their plan

Does anybody have access to the weight limit info for models sold in other countries? Based on experiences I've had with previous vehicles, these numbers differ by country (sometimes by a lot) even though the vehicle is exactly the same. Something to due with legal liability I think?

Fun story, I ran the 1/4 with 'heavy luggage' in the trunk and did a 14.055 at 104.72mph with 3 rev-limit hits and even some wheelspin.

Can't wait to run it without the luggage.
