So, the infotainment system in my 2017 Civic EX-T just stopped working a week ago today, right around 5500 miles. Right away I call the dealership and made an appointment, and the soonest they could fit me in was a week and a half away. I did some Googling and forum digging and found the number for Honda tech services. Couldn't get it rebooted or ANYTHING with two different people on the phone, both of which said "forget about the service appointment, just drive straight to the dealer and they'll take care of you." So I did, and they are taking care of it, and they've had my sweet baby for 24 hours at this point. They said they should have it fixed today, but WTF? Of course, right after I filled out all the buyer satisfaction surveys and email review requests. And at least they gave me a loaner while they fix it (a 2017 Civic LX, bright blue, base features only.)

So what actually happened with yours? Mine froze on me after only 850 miles, when I was trying to make a call and it was stuck trying to call which means I couldn't even listen to music because it would say cannot use audio during calls, or something like that.
I went to my dealer and they fixed it for me right then in there, all they did was disconnect the battery for 20min and it rebooted everything again but it actually saved all my contacts and presets.

Yeah, they tried to reset it at the dealer and it didn't help. They haven't really told me what's wrong yet. Still waiting to hear. I used Apple CarPlay a lot, but I'd be surprised to hear that is what caused it.

Ok, I'm curious myself to see what they say.

So I just got my Civic back from the dealer... but they weren't able to fix it and they're not sure what the problem is. They've sent in a request for a whole new unit... but they have no idea how long that's going to take. The service manager said he'd let me know. Which, fine, I understand. I'm happy to have my car back for the time being, even if there's no radio, no back up camera, no lane change camera, no navigation, can't identify how high or low we're setting the heater/air conditioning, and a terribly inaccurate clock.

Wow, that is a huge bummer! Can't they at least loan you a car that has a working system for the time being? You have a brand new car that is still under warranty and you have the right to have a loaner of equal value.

It's pretty frustrating, to be honest. As far as the loaner, they gave me one while they worked on mine, but I work downtown, driving, and while I'm an excellent, careful driver, it's just not a risk I'm willing to take. I'd much rather drive my own vehicle and take that risk. I also drive anywhere from 30 to 175 miles a day for working, depending.

I do wonder how long they thinks it's okay to make me wait for this replacement infotainment system. The service manager not having any idea how long the authorization process will take, and then how long it will take to ship the part(s), once they even find what they need for the total replacement. I mean, how long should I wait before demanding a replacement vehicle?

So I called for an update this morning, to see if they had an ETA for the new infotainment system or any kind of update. Nothing. The service manager says he's still waiting for authorization for a replacement of the system and hasn't heard back. He says that they have to go through "engineering" to document the problem in order to prevent it happening in other vehicles going forward, really wishes he had better news for me, etc.

It's frustrating because I work for a municipality and I carpool to meetings with co-workers and superiors, and I hear jokes like "well, guess you got a lemon!" and "so much for Honda reliability," and "it's always the fancy bells and whistles that break first!" I got the vehicle at the end of February, and I reported this problem to the service department at the dealership where I got the car on April 12th when it stopped working and I'm STILL driving around with no radio or music of any kind, no way to tell what I'm setting my environment at, no clock, no navigation, no CarPlay.

Yeah, hopefully not the same problem I'm having. First step is to call Honda Tech support and see if they can walk you through the factory reset procedure. And if that doesn't work, proceed to the service dept where you got the vehicle. Total pain in the ass.

I made the appointment for tomorrow. Hopefully they won't come up with some bullcrap and I have to leave my car there. Last time they gave me 2007 Honda Civic and that was a mess.

I had problems with mine for almost a year. The false warnings, the flickering screen. Then one time the screen went completely red. They replaced the unit but it was an older one. Then my screen went wonky again and went black and nothing would work. They replaced the unit again with a newer version and it's been good for probably 6 months now

Well, I'm glad you finally got one that works. My Civic is a 2017 and has the newest head unit. They had better not try to give me an older unit as a replacement.
