How to Change Oil on 2016+ Civic 1.5L Turbo

    I guess I'm old school, wanting to get the fine metal particles out of the engine as soon as possible. I'll replace the oil filter on the next go around.

    Never had one of these Oil Life Monitors before, it's base on how you drive it and/or just km?

    I was told by Honda that it goes by your driving,like short trips vs highway etc.

    I got an oil change middle of July and I'm down to 30%.

    Rarely do short trips and put about 5k/km. I do drive her hard, use S mode and Paddle Shifters 90% of the time.

    Good write-up! I noticed you forgot one thing that I'm keenly familiar with, though it should be understood...

    Remove your oil catcher prior to driving back down your ramps... On my old, 1981 Honda Prelude I forgot this extremely important step and dumped oil all over the driveway. Then, I'm pretty sure, in my 1985 VW Golf, I did it again. Real dumb. I was always nervous about the rickety old metal ramps that liked to scoot away as I drove up them. The plastic ones seem much better...

    I don't use ramps at all anymore, I feel they're all are dangerous. Floor jack and jack stands only. I do find that to get to the central jack point on the Civic, I have to drive up on wood blocks. I've been driving lowered cars for the last 15 years tho, so that's nothing new lol.

    It's easier if you have a spotter when driving up

    Thanks for the DIY.
    Finally, at 7,074 miles, 15% I got MM warning light showed up. My car will a be a year on Feb 20th. This is the 1st time I will be following the MM. My other 3 cars, I normally do it every 3k miles.
    I'll be using Mobil 1 EP 0W-20 oil and M1-110A EP filter.

    My 1st oil experience for this Civic was not that good. Everything was fine until the time to remove the OEM filter. The oil filter won't budge.
    First, I tried by hand, next with my existing filter wrench cap (I use it for M1-110 filter) it slips, then tried the filter pliers & a swivel type . So, I run to Advance Auto parts to buy a new filter cap wrench, thinking the grooves from my current filter cap wrench was worn out. Same results.
    Finally, I borrowed a heavy duty strap filter wrench. That did the job!

    Also, I noticed on the drain bolt washer when you it turn side ways, it has 2 distinct color.

    I can't remember where I got them, but if you've got one of the plastic ones... I had the same problem. I was able to find a metal set that look to be aluminum. They never slip. Had them 5+ years now.

    My old one was a metal(black) which I use for my other cars for 9 years.. The new one I bought is a silver metal Autocraft Model# AC1096 (64mm) (https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/wilmar-oil-filter-wrench-ac1096/11412318-P)

    I use channel lock pliers from the dollar store. I have been using them for years.
