Hello all! Just wanted to be sure I am making the right moves to land a 2018 Civic Si Sedan for a good deal. I have my OTD price set at $23,500.00 and I want to trade in my 2015 Si sedan(62k miles). I am asking $14,000.00 but my bottom line willing to part ways with my car is at $13,250. I stil owe around $8k.

Had a local dealer offer me $10,500.00 for my car which seemed low seeing that kbb set the avg price at $13,200. Their justification was that it will take them $3k just to bring the car up to selling condition.

I held my ground and did not make a deal with them seeing it was WAY too far fron my optimistic figures.

Question is....

Am I aiming too high?

They also wanted to have me pay for the dealer installed wheel locks and anti theft protection from All State.

Thanks for any suggestions and guidance!!

Congrats! You can definitely do better on the 2018 Si. I locked in the price OTD for a 2019 Si at $23,300 (no sales tax in NH). Not sure your price included all fees or not. When I was looking at 2018s within the last month, I couldā€™ve grabbed one for $22,500 OTD. Iā€™m waiting until spring otherwise I wouldā€™ve jumped on the 2019 now. Good luck!

7.75% CA tax for us here:/

They tried saying they could only offer $22,889 before tax and fees which puts it roughly at $25,157.00.

Not sure where you are exactly but I got my 17' Si last December at DTLA Honda for $24K OTD. I don't think $23.5K is too farfetched but wouldn't be surprised if it went for a little more (depending on taxes).

As for the trade in you could shop around and try non-honda dealers to see if they can do better.

a) sell your car via private party transaction if you want to maximize the money you can get.. Then wait.. consume your time and effort for flaky buyers.. setting up meetings to show that never happen.. get asked a million times to show various pics.. get nickle and dimed over a few nits.. and since you don't have a clear title, have to deal with a bank/escrow to handle part of the deal.

b) keep your still relatively "new" Si and enjoy it for years to come.. eventually paying it off and living debt free, so you can then build up a fund to pay for the next car. Some say the older cars with 8-9K redlines are superior to the newer 1.5T cars anyway.

c) Realize that the trade money you get for your old car will impact the "great price" you get on the new car..

d) Decide how your time/money is best spent!

Oh Iā€™m sure. Hereā€™s what the stealership wouldā€™ve done.
Given ya 10.5k for your ride
Tossed some brake pads on it (maybe)
Replaced the mats
Give it a good vacuuming
Top off fluids
Send it through the car wash
Put it out on their ā€œGently Pre-ownedā€ lot with a ā€˜Only $13.490! price tag on the windshield

I hate them all

I would private sell your 2015 Honda Civic si. I seen dealer ask for 22k 2017 Honda Civic si. Your si sought after and resale really good on that car.
