My last car was an '07 Fit and it went nearly 200k without so much as a clutch replacement before being totalled. Interestingly enough my car before that was an '06 Civic which was kind of a lemon and I only kept it for a year. Lets see what this Civic has for me.
My 2015 Fit was built in Mexico, and almost everything went haywire. 5 recalls in less than a year. My ‘16 CR-V has been perfect.

While some sensors (very few) input directly into the Instrument Cluster, most of the lights come from data sent to the Panel over the C-BUS.
Those sensors that do go to the Instrument panel, do not directly drive any lights, but instead input to the onboard Microprocessor, whose output controls all the lights & the two side mechanical gauges.
WIth no (or corrupted _ C-BUs data, the lights stay on in their Initialized "Test) on state.

I have a Test Si Instrument panel in my Head Unit Test setup. At the moment, all I have is Power going to the Instrument Panel ( Battery & ACC+) SO, so far when I apply the ACC+, all the lights come on, and stay on.
Even the Center LCD display, remains blank with no backlight at the moment, even though it is getting a Video signal form the Head Unit.

Interesting stuff, especially if you are a Software/hardware engineer with an interest in car electronics.
What is the goal of your project/research? I had some interest in studying me messages that the head unit uses to communicate with the dash display after seeing the Honda logo from the center screen display on the dash once. I can't justify building a test bench at the moment, but yes it is definitely interesting stuff.

So is there something your not telling us? Did you wreck the car? Did you mess with the electronics? I find it EXTREMELY difficult that your having that many issues with a brand new car if you haven’t messed with anything. It’s possible but unlikely. My 97 civic is running fine again with 140k and I abused the shit out of it. My moms and sisters ex’s are both running perfectly. And literally the majority of owners on this site are running perfectly with over 50k. What did you do to yours?
Who are you even talking to??

Good question.

90% Curiosity and the frustration that Dealers seem to know very little about the Audio system, except how to replace them (maybe)

To find out in a quantitative way what is happening with the unsatisfactory "Premium" audio system. For a 450W 10 speaker system, it sounds amazing bad .. but why, and can it be corrected without a massive system replacement.

To figure out how the Head Unit works and interface to the rest of the car, in particular the Instrument Panel, and play about with Honda Hack and speeding up the existing head Unit hardware/software.

I'd like to MOD some of the Head-unit and instrument display, but do not want to risk messing up the system in the car, so decided to buy a few used parts (on ebay etc), and play with it with a test setup, which is easier to work on, that the system in the car.

... now I've started, I cannot stop until I get some answers. :coffee:

The truth is that all brands are cheaping out. Doesn't matter anymore. Except for new model year changeovers and the dismal truth of turbocharging little engines which is always problematic. Eventually all cars will be electric, soulless, and disposable. Hopefully cheap too. Once all the manufacturers got a taste of true Capitalism and corporate greed over consumer satisfaction, all bets have been off.
Oh, yes.... I miss those soulful times before the manufacturers tasted true Capitalism and corporate greed took over, when we all enjoyed the affordable products of wonderful quality manufactured under the Socialism of yore, made without greed and with genuine care for consumer satisfaction... and they lasted forever too....those times will never come back...:headbang:

They wanted over $5k for extended on my ‘19. No way
What?? Jesus, I got my 7 year/100,000 Honda care for free, but when I was looking at it, I'm sure it wasn't more than 800.00, may have been less, I can't remember. You gotta find a place that sells it online, dealerships dont offer it.

You can get Honda Care right from Hyannis Honda in MA. They offer it basically at cost, should be around $800-$1200 depending how many miles are on your car now and what deductible you choose.

Have to say that Honda quality is not what it use to be. I was thinking of buying my 2016 Civic ex l when the lease ends in April , but highly doubtful now. Driving from NY to Florida last month the AC was blowing warm air. I bring it to Honda of St Augustine . They find it's low on freon but cannot find any leak. They evacuate & recharge it and add a dye to it. They also did the oil dilution update (I didn't ask them to) Changing the ac control unit is part of that campaign. I notice the next day that my dual climate control is not working. On my second trip back to the dealership they realize that it's the wrong ac controller. Of course they have to order the part. On my third trip they install the correct one. All is good until a few days later when the AC is blowing warm again. On my 4th trip back they replace the condenser. ( I told them that it is a common part failure , but of course they never believe you.) It seems all service writers are trained to never admit that they have ever seen any particular issue. When the service manager tells me it is a bad condenser, I responded that they just happen to have that & the compressor in stock. ( Even though they claim they've never seen any fail) It's shameful that a common part like a condenser & compressor that normally give you many years of service are failing in large numbers in 16 civics. Now my Civic is at a dealership in Daytona Beach & I have a loaner car. The latest problem is that every conceivable malfunction light in the dashboard is lit up. It took them almost two hours to tell me that the vehicle speed sensor is bad. ( I think it may be the vehicle stability assist module) There are numerous complaints online about these malfunction lights coming on for no reason. Of course they have to overnight the part, that's why I took the loaner. In 3 months the warranty ends ,& I'd be stuck paying these parts changers to repair this vehicle. Pretty sure I'm done with Honda. If I wanted a relationship with the service manager I'd buy a Ford , Chrysler or Chevy.
I also have a 2016 EX that had the same issue. Leased the car in the winter

I also had the same issue with my 2016 EX. Leased the car in the winter and left in the early spring on vacation to find after I had driven into warm weather the AC didn't work. I didn't have it fixed till I got back home. It took 3 trips to the dealership to have it fixed. I had to wait for them to get more dye to check for leaks. They were getting so many cars back for the same problem they ran out of dye. They thought they had it fixed but months later it was warm again. It turned out it was a very small crack in a pipe. That was more than a year ago and seems to be fine now.
