I declined the extended warranty offered through my dealer (some third party warraty that added a crazy amount to my monthly payment). I knew that I could get Honda Care from dealers in other states, so I started shopping and came across http://www.saccuccihondacare.com

I filled out the web form and I was offered a range of contracts at a fraction of the price of my dealer's options. I just signed up for a $0 deductible / 96 month / 120K mile Honda Care warranty for $1110.00.

I don't usually sign up for warranties, but I felt the amount of tech in my new Civic justified some extra protection, and this seems like a good value for me. Just wanted to share in case anyone else is looking for warranty options.

It is always better to buy your extended warranty outright. If you finance it with the car then any refunds (due to selling the car or cancelling warranty) will be paid to the lien holder - the bank, not you.

Wow, that's about 1/3 of what the dealer offered when we bought the car.

My Accord is still under warranty and some of the 'tech' in my car no longer works. Specifically the text message function that would read my text my incoming texts to me as I was driving. After several trips to the dealer and some trouble shooting with Honda on the phone they essentially told me there was nothing they could do. Honda blamed it on Apple for changing their software. Just a heads up.

Yeah, obsolescence (or passing the buck as obsolescence) stinks. I was specifically talking about the Sensing equipment, as I can imagine repairing any of it would be quite expensive.

My dealer offered the 96mo/120K warranty for $1600 or thereabouts. I pulled the trigger on it, since like you, I figured the tech features may have a few bugs that would need to be fixed within the next 8 years. Not to mention this is the first Honda with a turbo engine so I felt compelled to cover all my bases here.

Wow that's interesting. Especially if you go ahead and deduct the factory warranty from the mileage/year.

D82 5 84 $1,015 $12.08 $203

Mine was within 10% of this price, so I don't feel terrible.

Nor should you. You still paid a fraction of what many dealers offer.

I've never been a fan of buying extended warranties, especially with Honda's. The finance people always ask if I am interested and I tell them that one of the reasons I am buying a Honda is because they are so reliable, and if it does happen to break, odds are the warranty won't cover it. When I bought my '16 Civic I told him that I just traded in my 2009 Civic with 180,000 miles on it and I didn't have a single problem with it, and I'm sure I could easily have put another 20K-30K more miles on it. They also told me how great it ran for how many miles it had on it (although I'm sure that was a tactic they used to try and compliment me when they gave me an offer for the trade in). Then they try to say that yes, Honda's are reliable, but do I really want to take the chance that something won't happen to the transmission and don't I want the peace of mind of not having the warranty?

I was actually surprised though, they didn't really push me that hard for the warranty on my '16 Civic. Once I brought up how reliable my old Civic was he agreed that I probably wouldn't need it, but he also said that cars are so much more technology in them now that the warranty is worth it in case something happens with the electronics, still not enough risk for me to justify the warranty though.

My wife and I bought a brand new Toyota a few years ago, they really pushed the warranty on us. I repeatedly turned it down and eventually they gave it to us for free, including paint protection. Less than six months later some of the paint on the hood of the car started to chip away. I brought it in to have it fixed and of course they said it was normal wear and tear and was not covered by the warranty.

I came from a 99 Accord with 286k miles... No warranty on that one, could have easily driven to 300k if I replaced the timing belt.

Finance manager yesterday when I picked up my car tried to sell me Warranty and GAP by reducing the interest rate from Honda to make it only $300 more total financed. But I want to pay the loan off very early, and plan to refinance in less than a year anyways, so the interest rate reduction wouldn't help me much. Warranty and GAP would still be added to the principal unlike the interest which I can avoid by paying early. Warranty was also 6 years/60k miles for $1100 which was too expensive.

I ended up just getting GAP "Plus" for $750 (trade-in worth nothing, didn't have an enormous down payment, it's worth it). My credit union offered GAP insurance for $375, but if I financed with Honda I got a $500 student graduate rebate, so it was still cheaper to use them. After a year or two of making extra payments I'm going to cancel GAP (prorated refund).

Do you have to do it as you get the car or how long can you wait till you get this warranty?

You can get it after you buy the car, as I did. I had 850 miles on it when I bought my warranty. I don't know what the actual limits are as to how long you can wait. You could wait until right before the factory warranty expires, but you will have to pay a penalty of some amount.

I believe for the lowest pricing it's 6 months or 6000 miles.
