Not trying to thread-jack or bash any names here, just trying to shine some light on the subject to educate the community:
You are comparing apples-to-oranges here in terms of core dimensions. The HKS unit utilizes a tube-and-fin core, much like the factory intercooler. Tube-and-fin cores require a MUCH larger/wider core size to flow as much volume as a bar-and-plate core. Typically tube-and-fin cores are sealed together with a .125" thick end plate seam, meaning the tube width is less than the width of the side plate resulting in lost space where the joints are. Basically a 3.5-inch core will have tubes only 2.87 inches wide.

Also keep in mind that bigger is not always better. Even though a core may be "larger" in terms of external dimensions, it's the internal dimensions of the core that truly differ from core to core. External fins are the primarily responsible for cooling as air passes through it. Internal fins/rows are what is important for potential air volume/flow. The larger the internal rows/fins, the more volume an intercooler can flow, or more "dense" the intercooler is. There's a fine balance between cooling and power flow, especially for these cars.

Another thing to stress is the fact that huge intercoolers are not needed for factory turbos, drop-in replacement turbos most potential turbo upgrades for these cars because these turbochargers will never be capable of surpassing the average intercooler upgrade's efficiency.

Dimensions also become critical in airflow obstruction to the radiator of these temperature-sensitive vehicles.

We made a little write-up a while back explaining intercooler basics for the 1.5T community if anyone would like to take a look ;) https://www.civicx.com/threads/intercooler-or-interfooler.14894/

With that being said, ANY intercooler on the market or coming to the market will still be an upgrade for these cars. :)
