Help - tire size question, 215 vs 225 vs 235

Can anyone shed light on 215 45r18 vs 225 or 235 40r18? I’m confused why tire rack is suggesting 215 when everyone’s running wider and curious of what fits on stock suspension without issue. Thanks

Stock diameter on your EX hatch with 215/50-17's is 25.5 inches. You want to keep overall diameter nearly the same when going up a wheel size to keep your speedometer reading accurate.

215/45-18 = 25.6 inches. Almost exact to stock diameter. Speedometer will be accurate.

225/40-18 = 25.1 inches. Your speedometer will read 1.6% fast.

235/40-18 = 25.4 inches. Diameter nearly stock and speedo reading will be accurate.

Based on that, 215/45-18 or 235/40-18 are your best bets. 235/40 will be wider and handle better. But, that tire will be a bit heavier and probably cost more and the ride will be a bit harsher. There will be no rubbing issues though.

Thanks. I also changed my "model" on tire rack to get something that has 18" wheels stock and then bam 235/40R18's instead of the 215's it was recommending to me earlier. I just wish they'd actually give you the sizes you can run instead of pretending you can only use one size. I'll just have to decide now if I want 18's or to stay with 17s.
