2017 Civic Hatchback LX. Bought the car in August and am now sitting at just over 6,700 miles. Oil life is currently at 30% remaining. I'd like to get my summer tires/wheels put on soon and it would be convenient to get an oil change in the same trip to the dealer. However, should the factory oil stay in the engine until the oil life hits 15%? I've heard from some that the factory oil contains some lubricants and whatnot for the initial engine break-in?

There might be some special additives in the oil even though I'm not sure it's a special "break in oil" but the OEM oil thins out a lot.
I would change it with a good synthetic.

There was a tsb floating around here about a year ago when I first joined that said not to change the factory fill too early.

Depends on your driving habits, My oil was still 30% at 8500 miles (13,,800 km) when I changed it, probably would’ve went over 10,000 miles before I hit 10% Literally 98% highway miles though.

I don't think you'll see too much added benefit by waiting another 15%. Ask the dealer before you visit them if they're willing to do it (many won't on factory fill).

Thanks for the info everyone. Looks like I'll just wait it out and change the oil around 15%.

I have the same car (Canada though) and changed mine at 15%. The worker told me at 15% you still have another 1000k to go. Is it the same in the US that Honda only use synthetic oil? I asked for synthetic when I dropped my car off and the person behind the desk stated that all they use is synthetic on these cars and not mineral.

I don't know now, but 0W-20 used to be synthetic only.

Honda's 0W-20 should be a synthetic blend. Not a full synthetic.

I believe they do offer a synthetic 0W-20 in a silver bottle. The cheaper synthetic blend should be in a black bottle, IIRC.

Yea,also I was told by the dealer I used to go to that they used the synthetic blend, if I wanted to pay extra,I could purchase it.
