Is there a consensus on the cheapest, easiest way to replace the muted, agricultural induction noise of the Si with a little bit of honk? I'm guessing SRI at minimum, but what about "stage 1" mods that just replace the filter and intake hose? Or something DIY?

I have the PRL stage 1 and with the windows down you can hear the the turbo spool and a little huff when you get off the gas. Although it’s not loud, it’s easily audible. And cheap.

Off the subject of the Si but am I the only one that hates all these new cars with the piped-in fake engine sounds? Stupid.

I'd say you should go with the SRI if you don't care for performance mods.
If you do, just save up the extra bit for a CAI. Hydro locking is only really going to be an issue if you're driving through over a foot of water.
Drop in only if you really cant justify the cost.

Seriously it's STUPID... But whats worse is I remember some french company made a fake exhaust by putting speakers in the mufflers to "make any car sound like a Ferrari"....

    edit - found it....

I just put in a drop in K&N and it sounds pretty good, hear a whistle under acceleration and a whoosh when i let off

Most bang for your buck imo is just do a muffler delete. Pretty cheap to get done and it makes your exaust much louder, throaty and it crackles.
Add a CAI and you have that loud sound with that sweet woosh. Cheap and changes the driving experience by a large margin.
