I was in my buddy’s car yesterday in a snow storm. We were in an empty street, he pulled the hand brake and did a perfect 180 (handbrake turn). I used to do this a lot in my old car, 1999 Prelude SH. It was so much fun......

With the e-brake in the SI, there is no way to do a 180, right?

Short answer is no. Long answer is more convoluted... the brake (if stability control even allows it to come on) comes on pretty slow. This would not work well for a e-brake turn. I have recently seen someone try it on a higher end car fitted with an electronic ebrake and it skidded to a stop but barely rotated at all. My guess is stability control would intervene immediately even if the brake could engage at speed. Also I would avoid even trying as to not totally F(*& up your ebrake lol.

Ok. Thanks. This is what I thought. Not sure why the e-brake in a 6MT.

I also hate the operation of this e-brake. After 3 months of ownership, I still am not used to its operation (lift to engage, down to release). I still try to push down to engage. LOL.

Think of it like this.... you pull up on a regular ebrake to engage it and push down to disengage it... you do the same with the switch. Just think of the switch as a tiny manual one as far as up and down lol

I know. It is just not intuitive to me.

BTW. Is e-brake cheaper to make?

I’m not a fan of this electronic e-brake, old ones were better in my opinion.

this is what I was referring to when I said "I have recently seen someone try it on a higher end car fitted with an electronic ebrake and it skidded to a stop but barely rotated at all."

No but look at how much space you have between the front seats to store things, thats the benefit of e brake

My previous car had a foot brake. I drove the car for 14 years and it never failed.

I'd rather have the handle. And the ability to brake just the rear tires.

I never question the reliability of foot brake, i just like the space that the e brake ou foot brake create

Maybe i m too old but i dont remember the last time i activated an handbrake while moving
Same. I never did it to my 9th Si in 3 years of owning it. I know I did it in a Corsica (horrible car) when I was 16-17 going too fast down dirt roads. I'm pretty sure that was the last time.

I should have done it on the way to the dealer to trade it in...
