Problem fixed. Contacted Samsung, they said to bring the phone to a warranty station near my house, ( for no charge) and do a "system reflush". Took it there, they did it and it still didn't work. Figured I would try a couple of things just to see if it's the phone or the car. Deleted the phone from the car, and deleted android auto from the phone. Reinstalled android auto and repaired the phone to the car, and...…………………..the damn thing worked. Even Waze, which hadn't worked properly for a while, works fine. A happy camper for the time being.
