For those of you who do your own maintenance, how do you document everything?

I've always done my own maintenance but never really had a great system. Curious what you guys do.

Some people with serious OCD keep a spreadsheet on their computer.

I keep a small dollar store notebook as a logbook in the glove compartment.
Everything is listed in chronological order, mileage is noted at service time.
Parts receipts get stapled in at the appropriate spot to help document what was done.

I use myCarfax, and manually record everything in there. It saves to the cloud too, so there's no need to worry about forgetting its location or losing it.

I've saved receipts and actually videoed what I've done to show that I have not caused ANY issues that may arise. Had a dealer try to tell me I screwed up something in the head unit once and I never touched it. So now, I video stuff.

Thanks for the Tip .. I just signed up as well.

What I found surprising and was delighted to see, was that my only Honda Dealer Service visit, to have them install the Side Protectors, was already there in the maintenance records.
I assume that mycarfax must pull data from CarFax.

I also assume that myCarFax does not send any data I enter about service work I do back to CarFax, otherwise it would too easy to just make up bogus Carfax reports about one's car.
Can someone confirm how car Owner entered data is dealt with

DIY maintenance does not report in carfax, but I believe it stays in myCarfax.

Thanks, I can confirm that now as well, after some further research.

I work in a lab and our standard for record keeping is to hand write in pen in a notebook with permanently affixed pages. Corrections are made by single striking and appending corrections at the tail end of the notes. Our notebooks are notarized at the end of each quarter.

This is something that is seen as legally binding and unimpeachable in our industry and carries the wight of DNA in a court of law when patent issues arise.

Whether this works anywhere else, IANAL, but this is exactly how I document the work on my car.
