yeah I really love how they look. Would be hard to swing the price difference to the Motegi but they are pretty nice....

it's about a $700 price difference due to shipping to hawaii. one could make up the difference by selling the included tpms sensor and acura center caps :D

Any experiences on how low you can run the fuel down to without being fuel starve?
Apex Carver and I did sixteen runs total today on a course with a ~210 degree left and a ~210 degree right. By the end of the day our fuel level was around an eighth of a tank. Neither of us experienced fuel starve on any of our runs.

To my knowledge the only autocrosser who's reported fuel starve in a Type R has been das borgen's friend, so I kind of wonder if it's something unique to his car, site, driving style, or something else specific to him.

Yeah, that's a little strange. Maybe @Jrose29 can shed more light how that happened to him

To further clarify this, when I was done for the day and heading home the fuel light came on as I was leaving the venue. So we actually ran at 1/8 of a tank for a little bit with no issues I think.

Some dude I talked to at CAM Challenge over the weekend was saying his friend ran into fuel starve on track at less than 1/2 tank too...

I am sure it has everything to do with what kind of course it is too. A tight local style courses vs a sweeper heavy National style courses will have pretty different demand as far as fueling issue goes.

When I look at tracks, my experience leads me to guess - guess - that it is sharp high-load turns that are the culprit, e.g., at Gingerman in the spring, Johnny and I both seem to have needed well over 1/4 tank; but at more flowing tracks like Calabogie I've run until the low fuel light has come on. One other factor/guess is that the gas sloshing around in the tank seems to lead to a falsely-high fuel gauge display - showing 1/4 tank or whatever when there is actually less. Just guesses, though - and I'm not sure how any of that transfers over to autox as I've tried to run 3/8ths tank or higher since the spring. All I know is running direct injection systems dry is a bad thing, and, for refuelling with that capless funnel, a 5 gallon SureCan is a lot easier to use than a regular 5 gallon gas can.

race 2 today. dnf'd the first two runs as i messed up the finish (got lost, missed the gate & drove in between gate )
managed 2 clean runs, last run, 1st DS and 19th PAX. other than me driving like terribly, car felt great, balanced and easy to rotate (with 3 180 degree turns).

So autoX related posting, I am trying to figure out a good way of packing this car for events, the car has a lot of space even compare to my GTI but between the not very squared hatch space, the step in the rear floor and the ginormous wheel/tire combo, its actually more annoying to pack. I've done 1 track day where I just made 2 double stack:

This seems ok, but I feel like maybe I can do better. So I bought a moving blanket from Harbor Freight and covered the rear seats and did this:

The tires are captured and confined to the rear seats and they can't slide around(the previous way can), and I still have most of the hatch space to use. But the downside is front seats are sorta limited in their positions now, I think I have the driver's seat set a bit more upright than I'd like, so for long drives I have to see how this feels. I also feel like I probably will get lazy and not use the tire cover as much and the tires probably will scratch the rear seat backs...

I also tried standing 4 of them in the hatch and while width wise they fit, the hatch won't close as the tires are hitting the rear hatch plastic trims:

If I slam it hard enough I think it might close, but probably breaking things in process...

For comparison, mainly because of the smaller tire diameters, GTI can fit 2 stacks of tires across with the seat folded down:

That really helps in keeping them in place and leave space behind the stacks.

Also I guess there is no way I can stuff a lot of tires in the back of this for a tire mounting trip...record for GTI was 13(2 sets of mounted and 1 loose set of tires, plus 1 more loose tire). I can see maybe 8 -10 tires...

Whelp, just finished an event where ambient temps were hovering around 32 degrees F. Got raw timed by SSC with one of my worst finishes of the season. I guess RE71-R's dont work as well in freezing conditions as Falkens. Car was extremely loose and got nothing but wheelspin all over the place.

Lesson learned, dont bother bringing out the car unless it's warmer than 40 deg F.
