Has anyone thought about or actually converted their FWD Si to an AWD setup??

Of course. But who can do it at a time like this is the question. I’m down for a sleeper.

my buddy makes AWD conversions but only for B series I think. "Automotive Koncepts and Designs Inc" is his business.

Hope this is a theoretical discussion only.

It is interesting but unless you yourself is a master mechanic, this is a expensive and problematic conversion. If you want an AWD, change car.

I guess theoretical is right. Moreso I was interested if anyone had the time, money, energy to get what Honda hasn’t given.
I love my car. But I think an AWD Si would be awesome.

And if the lotto pays out or something, I will let you all know how it goes

There is an interesting series of videos on Youtube from Vtec Academy where they do a technical inspection on a Type R and mention that it seems Honda had designed the Civic platform to accommodate an all wheel drive system. If I am not mistaken the Civic X and new CRV share the same/similar platforms so perhaps this is why. Perhaps it is standard procedure for Honda to make a platform as versatile as possible. After all, the Fit/Jazz is offered in all wheel drive in other markets.

Same money can get a base WRX that already has more power and torque. For a small fraction of the cost of converting to AWD you could get into an STi. This theoretical conversion wouldn't be worth it in any way, shape or form.

And deal with clutches frying at 5k because of thin fire wall/bad spot welding? No thank you!

I did it.
Changed my 2009 SI for a 2015 Lancer Ralliart.

But going back to the topic. With money everything is possible.
In my opinion totally worthless.
There are a lot of very nice cars with oem AWD out there. (Focus RS, EvoX, GolfR, STI)
Or you can also get over it and work on improving your FWD grip and enjoy it.

People that did that to Civics back in the day pretty much just bolted up a CR-V driveline into a Civic. Probably easier to just put a second motor in the back.

I really don't see the point when you can have a car for probably a lot less money that will do the same or better. (Probably better)
With warranty, reliability etc . . .

I hope you all know that I’m in agreement that it would be a pricey and difficult alteration. Was really just curious if it had been done.
I really am in love with the Civic styling though. So as fun as an STI or GolfR would be, it would have to be an additional car for me and that’s not in the books right now.

Saw a video of some guys who did a RWD mod into a 5th or 6th gen with a vette motor. The cost was ridiculous though. Easier to get an S2000 and LS1 swap that. As far as original question goes, no one is going to do that unless it's payed for as some concept or show car.
