I have a 6 speed but from what I can tell in the owners manual there's not a way to check the transmission fluid on a CVT, it just recommends changing it every 25,000 miles.

Hi fellow LA'er...

Where did you read about the fluid change interval for the CVT?

Where'd you see every 25k? I've never found any documentation supporting this.

I think I found the source of the 25K mile CVT fluid interval:
http://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/...M&t=H&model=CIVIC&year=2016&referer=ownerlink

Maintenance minder code 3 service:
Replace CVT fluid

NOTE: Using the wrong type of fluid will damage the transmission.

Driving in mountainous areas at very low vehicle speeds or trailer towing results in higher transmission temperatures. This requires transmission fluid changes more frequently than recommended by the Maintenance Minder. If the vehicle is regularly driven under these conditions, have the transmission fluid changed every 25,000 miles (40,000 km).

Use Honda HCF-2.

1.5 L engine models: 3.7 L (3.9 US qt)

2.0 L engine models: 3.5 L (3.7 US qt)
So the 25K mile is only for severe conditions. Otherwise just trust the computer to tell you when.

Right, I recall seeing this in the owner's manual. I'm guessing the car will say 40-50k for normal driving.

I think a lot of new vehicles are not putting in dip sticks for the transmission fluid. My 2006 dodge magnum had a tube for the dealer to check it. I'd just leave it be and let the dealer deal with it when it's time.

My dealer said my Touring had no dipstick (which is true) and that if is not leaking, don't worry about it between changes.

The full owners manual actually claims that transmission fluid level should be checked monthly. I don't know about you guys/gals, but this seams like a huge inconvenience, as the level can only be checked at the dealership. "Ain't nobody got time for that!" This has been especially frustrating for me as I don't even trust my dealer anymore for services. I had them do my first oil change, and they over serviced it by 1 1/2 quarts! I like being self sufficient, and am trying to go the DIY route. Anyways, I've finally found a clue as to how to service the CVT on your own (didn't feel like playing the subscription fee for the service manual). Skip to around 12:25 for the fluid level check.

I know it's from a 2014 Accord Sport, but our transmission is very similar. Basically there is the fill port, which northern ex-t posted above (the plug at least), a drain bolt located on the underside of the transmission, and finally there is a, "check bolt," which is used to drain off excess transmission fluid after going through the procedures described in the video. I highly recommend watching the whole thing. Yeah, fight the power!

Just buy a dipstick. On our Jeep Patriot you can use the oil dip stick to check the CVT fluid. (of course you have to make sure the stick is completely wiped clean of oil)
