Hi,
I recently bought a 2016 Civic, LX, Sedan (pre-owned) with around 12.5k miles on it. The vehicle is still under warranty for the next few months. I didn't really pay attention to the lights on the display when I bought the vehicle. But, I started having questions when I read the owner's manual.

Here is what I am observing, please let me know if it's an issue.

1. When I insert the key and switch to position - 2, the display comes up and I see, check engine, battery, and Low Oil Pressure lights.

2. If I do not turn on the car for a few seconds, the check engine light flashes for 2 seconds and turns off itself.

3. When I start the vehicle (engine running), all the lights are turned off, and I can drive without any issues.

The oil was changed a year ago, but not driven much since then. Hence, the oil life balance is at 80%, and when I check the oil level using the lever (open hood), The oil is above the maximum level indicator and it's clean (yellow in color).

Please let me know if I should worry about those three lights (check engine, battery, oil) that comes on at key level-2 and turns off after the engine starts?

Thanks a lot in advance.

The lights come on as a self check prior to engine start. As long as they go out once the car is running, you're fine.

If your battery has been unplugged recently or have had any cel codes cleared it will reset the readiness monitors in the ecu, depending on how many times the engine light flashes it will tell you how many monitors havent set yet if it stays solid after you key it on and then goes out all the readiness monitors have been set, no need to worry about the battery and oil pressure light the reason why they are on is 1. Cause they are supposed to be on to do a little mini self start diag to make sure all the lights are working and 2 the car isnt running so it isnt gonna be charging the battery or is going to have any oil pressure and since those 2 lights/systems run "hot" when set to ignition or run they will be on because those lights dont know that the car is running so no need to worry, only worry about it if the car is running and those lights come on especially the oil pressure light.
