Honda is extremely well known for delivering vehicles on sub-par tires. Hell, the 9th gen Si had grand touring conti-pro contacts as the standard tire. The summer tire was an expensive add on.

The same goes for virtually all auto manufacturers... Original tires are usually of the lowest possible quality.

$600-1100 for better tires might be the best upgrade out of the gate. I think that after that messing with the camber, and a rear sway bar upgrade if needed after tires.

LL1 selection seems to be limited. Up to 34K is a lot of different cars (I think the SI is the cheapest one on the list). No GTI, No fords, no mazda, or many of the other cars you commonly see the civic compared to. Most of the cars listed are also "sports" cars while the SI is a spiried eco box. Oh well....

A spirited Eco box that is 3 seconds off an Audi S3. That is quite the compliment to Honda I guess. They don't even need a "sports" car to run with cars nearly twice the cost. Pretty impressive

I've driven the track in my M3 and the way the tires gave up the ghost at Hog Pen was so painful to watch on the Si's lap. I really think all the car needs is tires

The Goodyear tires don't get much love in this test either.The Pilot Sport seems like a great alternative.

As for the which SI is fastest, it won't go away anytime soon. Proof means nothing to some people. But we all know the truth and that's all that matters!

VIR is a more technical circuit that favors momentum cars like the Miata and Si. Tires, brakes and distribution are far more important than power.

The BRZ should have done much better than the results suggest. But the narrow tires really do prevent it from holding a line.

Willing to bet if they did a similar comparison on a track with higher average speeds, like Auto Club Speedway, the margin would have probably between much closer between the Si and its predecessors/competitors.

Given what it's compared to, the Si did extremely well IMO. They should also have a couple of charts for that same collection of cars listing their respective prices and fuel economy...
