Hey All,

Car just arrived to Borla Exhaust this morning for Exhaust R&D for a cat back system.
Should be about a 3 week process and I'll keep this thread updated with details as they progress.

They'll be dyno'ing to ensure the exhaust provides performance improvement.
Other priorities are sound (without drone) and looks of course.
I have asked them to bring the exhaust out further as I believe the stock one is sunk in too much.

Any suggestions or requests for what you guys want to see...
  1. What look would you want in an aftermarket exhaust?

  2. Are 3-tips a must-have look for an aftermarket system?

  3. Do you like an option of a down pipe for a turbo back full 304 stainless steal system?

  4. Street legal cat back or single tip competition turbo back?

  5. Polished stainless steel or carbon fiber tips?

  1. What look would you want in an aftermarket exhaust?
Something that has sharp lines/edges like the rest of the car.

2. Are 3-tips a must-have look for an aftermarket system?

Not a must have, just fill up the space accordingly. Something like a large trapezoid/oval/rectangle single opening would look cool.

3. Do you like an option of a down pipe for a turbo back full 304 stainless steal system?

If no CEL are thrown yes a down pipe option would be preferred. Catless downpipe, high flow cat mid pipe and cat-back exhaust would be the dream.

4. Street legal cat back or single tip competition turbo back?

Street legal, can always open it up more down the road. Harder to quiet something down. Also sometimes less is more.

5. Polished stainless steel or carbon fiber tips?

Carbon fiber!

keep the 3 tips. but make them equal sized and slightly slanted. carbon or burnt titanium. would be interested in a full turbo back with catless downpipes.

UPDATE:

Base dyno finished 280 or so at the wheels (as we all know the hp is underated) and should have some images in the next week or so.

Strapped on the regular hatch exhaust from Borla and it fits perfectly obviously but the sound is horrible.

Testing 2.5" and 2.75" piping, probably won't go to 3" for now.
Should have some HP numbers in a week or so to share.

Looks like it will stick with 3 tips and looking at titanium and carbon fiber.

More to come and images when I have them...

You'd be surprised, 2.75 can out perform 3. No need to go 3 just to go 3...

I'm totally in for the results and would love to know the reasoning. I hope I'm not coming off as an ass; I honestly just want to educate myself. Are we talking out perform with or without a tune? My Turbo K20Z3 had amazing results when I upgraded from 2.5 to 3 with a tune. I think most owners that visit the forums will be re-tuning their cars once it's ready for the CTR.

I think it sounds pretty good. Is there a reason they decided to go with 2.75? What kind of performance improvement does it have over the 3"

A little too raspy throughout the entire rpm range for my taste.

Don't like the sound at all. Too raspy. Not deep enough.
