So I'm considering just abandoning the Genuine Honda Battery for a better battery with more reserve power for when I'm not driving it for a few days. Any suggestions from those who have upgraded their battery?

I have not, but I left the car for more than a week and it started perfectly the first time. Don't bother voiding your battery warranty, just stick to it and replace with genuine if it fails. They come with a good warranty too.

Me 2 cents

Honestly bro Kirkland battery from Costco. It’s cheap, bigger cold crank than stock and AMAZING WARRANTY. I got one in my daily 9th gen where I usually leave lights on from time to time and she is mint. Went for a vacation for 2 week and it still started

I have not had any problems with my oem battery, but this thread has me thinking i should replace it before my next trip to the Dominican Republic. I went for the month of July. When i got back it started just fine. But if i go for a month in the winter i may not be so lucky.

I use Advanced Auto parts, they will install the new battery. I know its not difficult, but modern cars can lose memory settings when there is no battery. So Advanced hooks up a temporary power source while they swap out the battery, that way nothing is lost.

I see at least two kinds of the 51R battery - my civic has an OEM 410 CCA type which is not Honda branded, while my CR-V currently has the Honda 500 CCA type (RC: 85 min.) for which I paid $110. That Honda battery has a 100 month prorated warranty so it could be a good deal if at this price.

Probably the cheapest 51R battery can be found at costco at $73 and it is rated 500 CCA/85 min.

Mine died after 1 year and 1 month after purchasing new. Car was completely dead. No chance to move the car since the parking brake was engaged. No possibility to jump because of how my garage is configured. Went to Costco and bought a battery because the Honda dealership wouldn't take a removed battery in exchange. I am currently working with Honda on reimbursement.

I’d just get the Costco one and call it a day. I already got stranded once on the ‘16 EXT battery and another time on the ‘17 CRV. Dealer refused to replace the Civic battery but did replace the one in the CRV.

Bosch AGM is another one that I’m considering.

I say go to Costco. You know you are getting good warranty, 5% back on your purchase, and quality is not cheap for the price you pay.

I would stick with oem battery dealing with aftermarket part on previous cars they don’t fit right and some cases don’t last as long as oem it doesn’t matter to me in Florida a battery life last three years no matter what you get

Did you buy the correct battery group size? Never had a battery fail to fit if it was the same group size as the one being replaced. Never replaced a Honda battery yet, though.

Not the Honda but when I replace the battery on my Elantra a after market battery didn’t fit good yeah I know an Elantra which there’s millions on the road. So I got the oem for that car and it fit perfect
