I found 540rat's data intriguing, so I just picked up a jug of QSUD 0w20 (scored highly in his testing) from WalMart for $21. I'll use it for my next change, and pull a sample at 5k for UOA. After that I'll use the other jug of Amsoil SS 0w30, and pull another sample after 5k and compare. I understand that if I use Honda oil, I'll probably be fine for as long as I own the car, but I'm an engine geek, and just want to know.
I'm torn between using a oil with high moly that would extend the break-in process of the break-in oil such as Mazda 0w-20, Honda 0w-20 and maybe TGMO 0w-20 versus something like QS 0w-20 that scored high in Rat test (and used the 10w-30 with great results) but perhaps this Honda doesn't need a heavy add pack being a low-power turbo.

I DIY my oil changes and used M1 0w30 advanced fuel economy this last time. Call me crazy but my engine sounds and runs noticeably smoother and quieter than with the original 0w20. I'm still trying to decide if I'll go back to the 0w20 for the winter. I suppose that here in northern Illinois where some January mornings it might be ten below zero I might want the 0w20. But not when it's 90 degrees in summer.

Mobil 1 AFE 0W-30 has a pour point of -50. Its MRV @ -40ÂşC (ASTM D4684) of 13,250 isn't drastically higher than AFE 0W-20's outstanding 9,250 rating... You'd probably be fine with AFE 0W-30 all year long.

Our seasonal weather changes are even more drastic up here... I may get some Castrol Edge 0W-20 and some excellent Castrol Edge 0W-40 full PAO synthetic made in Belgium in gallons, often at great rebate from Canadian Tire. I can then blend my own 0W-30 for the summer, and even some 0W-25, 26 or 27.5 if I wish.

guess what these hondas are coming with in the dead of summer where it is mid 90s? 0w-20. these 0w-20s have better base stock then the 5w-20s of "yesteryear" actually, i am kind of tempted to do my own oil changes with 0w-20 or 5w-30 quaker state ultimate durability. they could void my warranty if i don't use 0w-20 during break-in or warranty period which is 30k or 60k.

I'm using 5w40 in my lx 2.0
Give some Castrol Edge 0W-40 a try. Made in Belgium, 0W-40 is a full PAO Group VI synthetic. With a pour point of -76°F, its quality is outstanding for the price as confirmed by UOA reports with high performance/turbocharged engines in BITOG and in numerous reviews.... The family's 2010 Grand Caravan 4.0 had its oil consumption go down from over a quart with 10W-30 to about 1/8 quart per 5000 kms with Edge 0W-40. I'll be blending it with some Edge 0W-20 for my 2018 Civic Si.

I'm currently using Pentosin, I don't know if it's group iv though. I'm thinking about going with Zepro Idemitsu Eco Medalist 0w20... seems to be all the rage in Russia.

How about the best available Group V 100% synthetic Ester based Motul 8100 ECO Lite 0W-20  $36.92 for 5 liter (5.28 US quart) bottle.

There's also Redline's full ester synthetic 0W-20 at $49.95 for 4 US quarts... Its viscosity is a tad higher at operating temps, along with pour point of -76°F. (Note- Motul 0W-20 pour point is LOWER THAN -50°C /-64°F)

Likely a redundant issue, but would like informed info for full synthetics. Considering : AMSOIL Synthetic, Castrol Edge, Kendall Liquid Titanium, Mag1 FMX, Mobil 1 Extended Performance, Penzoil Platinum, Phillips Shield, Quaker State Ultimate Durability, Red Line Full Synthetic, Royal Purple, Sunoco Ultra Full, TiLUBE, Valvoline High Mileage.
Come check us out for a wide selection of oils and oil filters!

I’ve always used Mobile 1 and hands down the best... but wait... it’s the only synthetic oil I’ve tried. I’m curious about AMSOIL but why try to fix what’s already the best? :dunno:

Mobil 1 is boss oil I had a Mitsubishi GST and had the engine stripped down at around 140,000k (in 2003). The shop said it’s one of the cleanest engine’s (internals) they’ve seen. I used to WOT that beauty everyday...

I’m running mobile 1 for a year and my Si loves it.

Used Mobile 1 synthetic filter. Is that what everyone is saying’s the best filter? Was hoping Honda had an OEM synthetic oil filter. But M1 seemed to be just fine.

With the fuel dilution in these cars, you’re better off changing your oil early, stop wasting money on expensive oils.

Recently did a UOA on my Si with cheap Supertech 5w30, it showed great results.

For those using Amsoil. I have the 2.0L. is there a benefit to using SS? or will the XL or OE be good enough changing the oil at MM intervals.

If money is not a concern, get SS. Although, you can get 5qt of M1 for 12$ and get same performance
