Time consuming to do it correctly but well worth the effort! Great product, all the seams matched up with the original seams and pictures honestly don't do it justice. Not a good modification if you're not a detail oriented, hands on type of person! Make sure that you are lined up properly before starting the stitching! Makes the wheel grip thicker and it feels soooooooo much better than the plain old leather! I have a Alcantara steering wheel on my Boss 302 Laguna Seca from the factory and I always wanted to add it to my FK8.

I know I wasn't the only one to ask this, but how bad would it be to install something like this without using the tape? Back when I was looking at a steering wheel replacement, this product and others like it did come up. The tape kept me away. Granted at the end of the day, I ended up getting a new wheel altogether, I know others wanted to know the answer to this as well.

The tape removes really easily, I know because I had to reposition a few pieces. The tape is necessary to hold down the "wings", the portion of the wrap that goes on the spoke areas going towards the center of the steering wheel. It keeps those flush on the wheel. I honestly don't think that if you didn't use it on the other areas it would effect the final result. I would definitely use it on the wings though! I love how it turned out!

Thanks for taking time to document it, looks great. I'd like to get it, still a bit torn due to the tape.

@tinyman392 I'm one of those concerned about this. I plan to keep it for a while(some years). I'm worried that with heat/sun it might dry and be difficult to remove - peeling the leather.
I sent a message to the manufacturer asking about this.
The said they recommend customer using it to prevent slippage. And that the double adhesive tape is high quality and easy to remove. Who knows after years... (take car wraps example, who thought that the glue would have hardened and become a pain to remove?)

If you are concerned with originality down the road perhaps the correct way to address this issue is to obtain an extra original steering wheel to stash away while they are inexpensive. That is my plan, I buy the wear items for any rare performance vehicles that I purchase. After having this on for a few days my honest opinion is that the wrap is so tight on the wheel that I can't see it slipping anywhere but I will still suggest taping the wing areas down.

Good idea.
- what kind of wear items do you typically get for your performance vehicles?
- "taping the wing areas down" - by wing areas do you refer to 3 & 9 o'clock positions the places to keep your thumb finger ?

Absolutely correct on the positions, this keeps the Alcantara flat on those flat areas. I usually buy steering wheels, floor mats and other model specific items. For example I have all of those items for my Boss 302 and most for my FK8.

Where did you buy the Alcantara upholstery? I found this, do you think it's good?

The Auto Interior Technic suede steering wheel cover is actually a DIY kit that you have to apply over the stock wheel. So something like that Dream Automotive wheel you linked to should actually be thinner since they strip the leather first then reupholster the wheel. If you want an Alcantera wheel, you’re probably better off getting the 2020 wheel as it should be far cheaper. If you’re looking for something custom the Dream Automotive will work. SWEIDIT also makes wheels which run for 380 USD as well.

OK thank you very much. I will decide whether to take it because I live in Italy and I would also have to pay the customs for the shipping
