Cup holders are NOT bigger. They are just redesigned with spring loaded tabs to hold cup firmer. I think they are a step down because they are actually smaller now and both the same size unlike 17-18 which have a small and a big hole...
I never realized that one of the cup holders in my '18 is bigger than the other. Just went and checked and what do you know? It actually is. I honestly can't believe it.

Interesting that you're saying it's smaller when the articles all said they are bigger. How do you know they are smaller? Seems like the design could easily be modified to make them both the same, larger size with room to make them even slightly bigger than the larger one in the 17-18s.

The only way to "upgrade" once you have taken delivery is to trade the car in, for a several thousand dollar loss. Just buy the cupholders and a new radio

I went to dealer and directly compared my 2018 cup holder to a 2019 hatchback touring cup holder. Both holders on 19s are now the same size & maybe a hair larger than the smaller hole on 18s but now come equipped with spring loaded tabs with no taper towards bottom like 18s have.
The dealer didn’t have a 2019 R in stock but I’m guessing they have the same cup holders as the touring.
I did all this research because I also heard the 2019 holders were larger and wanted to order it if my yeti lowball fit but it didn’t...not even close. At least the large hole in my 18 can cup the bottom of my yeti. It wouldn’t even clear on the 19...

I've been told outside the knob the poor performance of the headunit is the same...

Not worth the cost of swapping cars

I have a 19 and the head unit is definitely sluggish at times. It’s also a pity that apple car play requires the phone to be attached to the cable. Would be great if all that worked via Bluetooth.

Head unit has buttons, illuminated parking brake, better microphone, updated plastics on the outside?

Is it really worth trading it in for all that? C'mon, man. Is this a millennial thing? I don't hear any folks around my age care about so many little things like those.

I traded my 2017 hatch sport with i believe 18k miles on it for a 2019 type r and was able to make $1,200~ of it. Put it towards down payment for the type r.

Does hondata still work on the 2019s?
I don't think so unless they got it up and running. Last I heard, if I heard correctly, was that they were trying to get the 19s up and running. Do not take my word as the lord's gospel. I may not know what the fuck I'm talking about.

Maybe not in Feb. when the OP asked the question. It works fine now and uses the 2017 calibrations.

If you already have the 2018, I'd say no. But if I didn't have a Civic and had a choice between 18 and 19 I think I'd go 19 for the small quality of life updates
