I threw in a new OEM air filter at the last oil change 5k kms ago.

I've been checking it every 2 weeks out of curiousity.

The filter is rectangular.

Been noticing that one half of the rectangle catches significantly more bad stuff than the other half. There's a gradient actually. Sorry I don't have a picture, but this is easy to imagine.

I'm no filter designer, but seems to me that this is suboptimal for filter wear. Anyone else think so? Is this normal? Wondering if there may be something stuck in the air snorkel that's causing dust to blow onto one side of the filter only.

Like this? Maybe not a perfect design. But I think when it is needed, the air will go through the entire filter.

Yup that's what mine looked like at 10k miles. I hink it has a lot to do with where the air comes into the box and where it gets pulled through the filter most.

It's actually where the intake to the engine is. The engine is sucking the air and it pulls it to that side.
