Added mud guards . Kinda shows the drop on d2 springs. Didnt roll anything and there's no fender tab to modify. Rubs near side marker . Plastic fender liner .

if you rolled your fenders would the rubbing go away? Im looking to do a 18x9.5+38 set on either 235/40/18 or 245/40/18. I dont mind having my fenders rolled if that means they wont rub. I just need assitance with which tires to go with...

the reason I'm so adamant about it is that years ago I had a slammed G35 and it drove me crazy how much is rubbed that I ended up swapping back to stock just to have peace. it was truly ridiculous lol

don't want to re live those days

Im in the market for AVID.1 AV-20 18x9.5 Gun Metal 5-114.3 [+38mm]

I have a 18 SI lowered on D2 springs, would this work without rolling fenders etc?

Wanted to run stock tires (235/40’s) but don’t want the stretched look

Considering 255/35’s but don’t want to deal with rubbing etc since this is my DD.

All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks
255/35 on a 9.5 width wheel will have rub intermittently on hard dips and bumps at with people in the car on D2 springs. If it is just you most of the time, it will be rare on those dips. 255/35 is approx 5 mm shorter of a tire compared to the 235/40s that are stock, but the 255 width is going to put the tire right under the fender wall itself, as opposed to the 235/40 tire with stretch makes the sidewall of the tire fit into the curve of the fender wall/liner better.

First of all thank you for taking the time to explain the differences between the two. I do not understand wheel widths/offsets, etc so your info has been very helpful.

Secondly, since it sounds like the 255s are prone to rubbing at times (99% of the time it will be me and this is my DD) and the 235s are stretched, would a 245/40/18 tire be a compromise between the two and not rub?
Since this is my daily I want it to look nice and also drive well at the same time.

Run 9.5 +35 offset with 245/40 tires. I have zero rub even with very aggressive driving (stock Suspension). I am under the impression that lowering with prokit will be safe when it comes to rubbing. I am not sure off the top of my head the drop difference in the two springs. As long as you don't have a fat girlfriend riding shotgun most of the time, I believe you will have none - minimal rubbing. This is just what I have gathered. I have not gotten my car lowered yet so my reply could be worthless. I will say I am very happy I went with the 245/40 tire. I think if I run, it will be on the fender tab and that's it. Fingers crossed.

I think the 245 would be a good compromise. You are going to see some stretch still with the 9.5 width, but it is that stretch that helps fit the fender shape. Here is an example of what it would look like (pic taken from Fitment Industries):

The difference is he is running the D2 springs vs your stock springs. The D2 springs have some significant travel and will rub even with 235/40 tires on a 9.5 width wheel when going over dips/bumps fast. I pushed the fender tab up and the front end rub went away when going over bumps with just me as the only rider. When my car is full (4 people), I get rub in the rear too over dips with my 235/40s.
-------------------------------------

For your reference, here is what the 9.5 width wheel looks like with 235/40 tires (my car). You can see that the edge where the tire side wall and traction face meet it near the edge of the fender wall. The 245 will push that tire edge out another 10 mm and right under the fender giving the bigger probability of rub with load.

I know you're already running springs, but if you want to do this right without rub and bigger tire, go with a 9 in width wheel with similar offset, or change out the springs to Pro-Kit springs so the drop isnt as significant. Or ball-out and go air ride lol.

the wheels that I bought didn't come in a 9 width. Only 8.5 or 9.5 so I opted for the 9.5 width and I'm picking up a set of Firestone Indy 500 245/40/18's. Based off everything it seems like ill be ok. I don't want to have to swap out the springs for another brand (paying for installation again and another set of springs doesn't sound too attractive) but depending on how bad if at all the wheels rub ill make a decision from there.

Finally got the new wheels and tires installed
AVID.1 AV-20's 18x9.5 et 38 wrapped in Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's 245/40/18
Only experience rubbing on hard bumps (test drove today and purposely hit bumps to see if rubbing would occur)
Lowered on D2 springs 2" all around.

So if I do 18x9.5 +45 with 265/35 tires I'd have no rubbing on the sport hatch? This what I was looking for, I want a functional setup

I actually sold that setup and im now 18x9.5+45 265/35. You'll probably want alittle camber up front, but other than that you should be fine. I tried my setup on a friends stock si and he only rubbed with a full car and hitting a dip.
