Looking to get apple CarPlay in my civic hatch sport. Planning on getting this one https://www.crutchfield.com/p_113DNX575S/Kenwood-DNX575S.html?tp=72357

I don’t want a cheap one that’s going to shit the bed over time and was looking to see if anyone had any prior experience with civic aftermarket head units and could recommend which one will work good and for a while

All I really care about is apple car play, nothing else. Thanks

Check the threads in the electronics section. I believe you're gonna' lose a lot of system controls if you go with that one.

At that price range you're better off getting a wireless apple carplay unit. Two I can recommend are the JVC 855 (https://www.crutchfield.com/p_105KWM855B/JVC-KW-M855BW.html?search=Jvc_855&skipvs=T) and the Pioneer 4500 NEX (https://www.crutchfield.com/S-Laajicx2DUA/p_130AVW4500/Pioneer-AVH-W4500NEX.html)

They're both clean units but the JVC doesn't have a CD player if you wanted one go with the pioneer or jvc 950 (https://www.crutchfield.com/p_105KWV950B/JVC-KW-V950BW.html?search=Jvc_950&skipvs=T) The only difference between the jvc 950 and the 855 is the cd player.

You will lose some functionality. I work in car audio so if you any have any questions I'll be glad to answer the best I can (I'm by no means a master).

Thanks, with any of these units you mentioned or the one I put, crutchield says that if I get the more feature installation kit I’ll still retain steering wheel controls, backup cam etc. Do you know if this is true/ what functionalities do you know of that I’ll lose. Also I can go higher up in price if need be I just want whatever will allow me to smoothly use apple car play and be reliable. Thanks

Yes. Are you doing this install yourself?
I was gonna use their service to have them connect it to the vehicle specific harness but from there yes

Best buy is running free install on headunits 99.99 and up and they should have all the same components crutchfield does and if they damage anything they pay for it so I'd recommend that. It'd save you 25 bucks lol. What state are you in?

After looking at it I think tBest buy is the way to go. Obviously i can read reviews and everything but I was wondering if you had certain recommendations as to which ones are the best from Best Buy and to what features I will lose

Basically anything vehicle specific that is controlled or adjusted through the radio. For example, in my touring if I were to swap out the radio I'd lose the ability to adjust honda sensing features, calibrate tpms just to name a few things. You won't lose your backup camera, your steering wheel controls or the USB port. It just requires a few more parts. They should be able to help you with what parts you need @ best buy. Just FYI steering wheel controls requires an additional labor charge of 60~ which isn't covered in the free radio install.

Getting an aftermarket is more beneficial especially since you'd be spending less for more (wireless apple carplay/android auto). Then, you could just spend the extra money on the wireless charging accessory for our cars and never have to plug your phone in again ;)
