"This can of dry shampoo was left in my daughter's car's middle console. The lid of the console was closed.

It was hot yesterday and the can exploded. It blew the console cover off of its hinges, shot through the sunroof, and went high enough in the air that it landed about 50 feet away."

Yeah this was definitely an eye-catching story. I think I read that the dry-shampoo was generic walmart-brand and that it apparently listed more flammable and volatile ingredients than the name-brand stuff. I wonder if they will try and pin this on walmart in the end.

I'd bet that there's a warning label on the can that would excuse Walmart from this.

They'd be foolish to sue Walmart or anyone else. :) They'll be lucky if their auto insurance company covers this under the comprehensive portion of their policy. If not, I'm guessing it'll cost them around $3-4K for a new sunroof glass, console, and cleanup assuming there's no other damage. There are flammable and explosion hazard symbols and warnings on the front and rear of the container:

well that will teach you not to carry pressurized bombs in your car.

many years ago my mom had a piece of crap 1990 BLACK Camry with dark interior, she had a soda can pop it's top off on the rear package tray. Nothing close to this, but that thing wasn't near as pressurized as an aerosol.

I had a can of fix-a-flat explode in my plymouth TC3 hatch many many years ago. Made a sticky mess with a thin coating over everything but no glass broke so it was nothing like this. In fact, I remember getting into my car after work and wondering why things felt gummy and the inside of all my glass had a brown haze. Only after I got home after my commute did I find the empty can with the bottom blown out.

That is insane!
Also, I've never heard of dry shampoo.......clearly it is not something to be trifled with
Dry shampoo is generally used for *ahem* freshening up after a late night.
