I know there's a million threads about this, but I couldn't find much specific to what I'm looking for.

My stock conti's will need to be replaced shortly after I put them back on in the spring. I plan on doing 3-4 track days (Watkins Glen and NYST) this year, but other than that will be just using the Type R as a daily.

I was leaning towards getting Michelin PS4S on the stock 20" rims to use since they have good tread wear (compared to the stock Conti SC6) and would be acceptable on the track. However, I was reading that some people had the PS4S completely fall apart on the track in a single day. I guess they start de-laminating under track abuse?

So which of these solutions would make the most sense:
  1. Go with the PS4S on stock 20" rims and hope they don't fall apart on the track
  2. Go with PS4S on the stock 20" rims and also get an 18" or 19" set of rims and put Michelin Cup 2s on for the track
  3. Go with a different 20" tire for dual use that won't risk falling apart on the track but still have good treadwear for dailying
No matter what I go with I want to stick to the same overall profile tire, whether that's 20" rim + 245/30R20 or 18" + 245/40R18 or whatever the 19" equivalent would be.

I already own 18" MSW Type 55 rims for winter use that currently have winter tires on them, so I suppose I could repurpose those, but I'm not sure how good they would be for track use, I just got them as winter "beaters".

Thanks in advance!

I literally went through about 150 pages of this thread and was nowhere closer to making a decision. I got lucky in the classifieds section and a good deal on a nice set of wheels. Not my 1st choice but the price made it worth it. Good luck.

All black is before, I added red stripes and center caps to stay with oem them.

Thanks, but I was more looking for advice on tires/size+combos than the specific wheels themselves.

The thread gives all those specifics. Gives a chance to see certain combos and on stock suspension or lowered.
