93 Octane TSP Stage 1 vs Stage 2

I feel like I know the answer to this but just want some verification:

I went TSP stage 2 awhile back but am rolling back to regular 93 octane fuel. Should I spend the $80 on the stage 1 tune or will the stage 2 tune on 93 be equivalent?

I'm guessing no because the stage 1 was optimized for 93 octane and stage 2 was optimized for a 93 octane/E85 blend to E30-E40.

I don't know the answer to your second question, but stage 1 runs fine on either 91 or 93 octane, so if you roll back to 91 to save a few bucks, you won't even notice the difference (knock control never exceeded .51 at WOT) and hovered between .48 and .49

Our friends at TSP will have to chime in and verify. I know I was provided a dyno comparison of TSP stage 1 vs Ktuner 23# w/ethanol enable running the full timing advance and they were pretty well matched up... so it’s hot for a 91/93 tune. The TSP tune is locked up, but I’d expect their variant of the ethanol advance table just doesn’t get implemented (or minimally) running E10. They’d have to be the ones to chime in whether the baseline boost/timing w/o the additional ethanol advance is the same as stage 1. I know of no E10 dynos on TSP Stage 2. I’ve seen maybe one where someone was only running E30 vice the E37(?) needed to get the full advance and were a bit down on power, which was understandable.

Assuming they started with TSP Stage 1 as the baseline tune to build from and just added ethanol/boost increase tables with input from the ethanol sensor, you ought to settle at TSP Stage 1 power levels. Two Step or Derek would have to provide that input if they’re willing.

TSP Stage 2 on 93 Octane is equivalent to Stage 1 on 93 octane. Just remember you must have a flex fuel kit still installed to run the Stage 2 file.

Does it have to be installed though? I'm pretty sure I can turn off the code overrides in the tune and as far as I know if it doesn't sense any voltage input it defaults to 5.0 v aka no ethanol detected.

If it won't work without it installed then I guess I will have to get the stage 1 tune.

A tune with flex fuel enabled expects a flex fuel data input, even if that input is just telling the ecu that you have straight 93 in the tank. Unfortunately proper operation without proper data input cannot be expected.
