Basically looking for some guidance from Type R guys with more experience. Thoughts/Opinions welcome.
Car has 6800miles(half highway/half 2-lane very spirited driving) and the MM is still showing 40%. 7500miles seemed like a longtime to wait to change ANY oil, on ANY car so Im getting ansy. But the way its looking I would be waiting til roughly 11,000miles(low estimate, more like 13,000) on first oil change!!! Should I change it around 7500 or ride it out to 5%, 10%?? Thanks guys.

I'm old school and change the oil when I feel like it should be changed not when the car tells me. Depending on how hard I drive my car I change the oil every 3,000-5,000 miles. If I were you I would change your oil now. I use 0W20 Mobil 1 synthetic and an OEM filter. Takes me 15 minutes and costs me about $40.

Thats what Ive been thinking also. Stopped and bought Mobil 1 0W-20 this evening and wanted a K&N filter but they didnt have it so I went with Purolator Boss but im not really confident in it, it came with the oil deal. Any specific reason you stuck with OEM filter?

Well, usually OEM filters are pretty good, but apparently Honda changed to a different filter and it's not very good. I'll probably go with a K&N next time around.

Just wasting money / oil. It's not the 1970s anymore, with conventional oils that quickly break down and weak/no additive packs.

Additive packs in modern full synthetic oils can easily handle 7500+ miles. The only concern in this engine would be fuel dilution, but a poster on here went over 8k miles and only had 1.3% fuel dilution on his Blakstone report (above 2% is where you should begin to get concerned).

You should easily be able to get 7500 to 10,000 miles between oil changes, unless you are heavily tracking the car. Anything shorter is just wasting time/money/oil.

I just go by what the car says. It takes into account how the car is driven and the condition of the engine (load, temperature, etc.) during the driving. My first oil change, which is important because the factory oil uses a formula to aid in engine break in, was at 6500 (minute minder), second at 14k, and my most recent one at 23k.

That was my plan the entire time but apparently K&N doesnt make one yet. Or they dont have a listing for it on their website.

Doesn't the oil from the factory have additives that help out with a new engine. If I recall you're not supposed to change it for the full duration. I could be off, but I remember reading something about it.

I changed mine when it said to, which was around 9k miles. No problems here at near 20k (second oil change at 18ish k).

When you do go change it, if you are the DIY type i made a video here (of my 2nd change):
