My buddy had a brand new set of wheels and tires laying around that fit my Civic. They were originally for a race car project that he never finished. The rear tires are 255/40R17. I think they are a little wide but you tell me your thoughts.

It's more the offset of the rims than the width of the tires.

My wife's Civic has 245-40-18's on rims with a 42mm offset & they tuck into the wheel wells quite nicely.

Can anything bad happen from them sticking out of the wheel well so far?

I'm not sure about the mechanics of the suspension getting out of whack.....someone with a clue can speak to that.

I do know that if you have a full load in your vehicle, your top part of your fender might come into contact with the spinning tire.

I decided to just buy a different set that will fit better. I really wanted 18s anyways. Thanks for the input!

Damn 255/40 tire looks hella flush with the wheel, I really like that look.
