I’ll make this quick as I’m choking down some McDonalds ....
I’m heading to St Louis from Atlanta for Christmas and needed to shop for fuel right outside Chattanooga, TN. Despite passing it a dozen times on trips, I never bothered to take the winding back roads up to Lookout Mountain. It was rainy with a lot of weekend sight seers out and about but it is worth the 10 min off of I-24.
While I couldnt attack this road like I’ve done Tail of the Dragon, I can say that the revised gearing is perfect for backroads like this with 2nd gear peaking right around what would be 7-8/10ths driving. On the highway at 65-70mph she’s been a job. ACC works really well and the lane keep assist self steering feature works great but does keep me really close to one side of the lane; I’ve turned that feature off. The only demerit is not the car itself but these garbage Goodyear all season tires - they hydroplane line crazy and don’t inspire much confidence. Come March I’m replacing them with proper Michelin PS4S summer tires.
I reset Trip B to measure my highway time on I-75. Speed was a constant 65-72mph with keeping it down in 5th going up and down the mountains. Considering that the dealership filled it at delivery with 87 octane and the car has all of 300 miles or so on it total, I’m impressed with almost 40mpg. Oh yeah, 93 octane is over $1/gallon less here than my nearest to home Shell.
