Based on scanning dealer inventories, I noticed some 2019 Civics are assembled here in the U.S., I believe in Indiana, while others are assembled in Canada. Any insight as to the reason for the change resulting in multiple assembly locations?

I'm not sure if it was changed for 2019, but it was the coupes that were made in Ontario, and the sedans here in the states. Then I believe they were making a sedan in Japan also.

10th Generation Civic sedans have been assembled in Canada since production first began for the 2016 model year. As for 2019 Civic sedans, I’ve seen VINs beginning with “1” (U.S.) and “2” (Canada).

Nah. Plenty of sedans have been built in Canada as well since day one, including my 2017 EX-L.

Didn't realize that, never looked at the sedan.

Both HCM and HMIN share '16+ sedan production for both US and Canada. All coupes and Si (2D and 4D, globally) for 10th gen come exclusively from HCM. The Yorii plant in Japan also builds sedans for US market as of 2018 model, albeit in much lower volumes due to their larger model mix.

No change to HMIN/HCM though. HMIN has built the CIvic since they opened in 2008, HCM since 1992.

The only difference is the people building them. They all have equal engineering, design, and build specifications.

The notion is Japanese builds are better. The reality is there shouldn’t be any variance in build quality considering the naure of the assembly process.

I had a 2016 Fit made in Japan. No problems, but full disclosure, I only owned it for six months. Many complained about the fit and finish of the 2015 Fit made in Mexico.

When I was researching getting my Civic back in 2017, Civic sedans weren't available from Japan. I wish they were at the time because all my previous Hondas/Acura products were.

I've also been a member here since 2015 and was reading post after post leading up to my decision to buy a 10th gen Civic. In my reading, I was struck by the complaint ratio between US built and Canadian built Civic sedans. It seemed like the fit and finish complaints were mostly coming from the US built car owners.

When I finally was ready to car shop, I made sure the car I bought was built at the Alliston plant. Maybe it was silly on my part considering how much robotics play a part in car manufacturing, but that's what I did. And, knock on wood, so far, so good.

Does this make any difference when it comes to aftermarket parts?
