The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rated the 2018 Civic headlights "Poor", their lowest rating. They haven't rated the 2019 Civic yet (as of 2/11/19).

Honda website describes them as "Projector-Beam Halogen Headlights with Auto-On/Off" for all trims except Sport Touring, which I wouldn't be getting.

Does anyone know if the Civic headlights were improved for 2019?

    Thanks.

All they did was black out the housing so I doubt it

According to this and other articles I've read, Honda has upgraded their headlights:
"Honda has also updated the Civic’s halogen and LED headlights for this year."
    https://www.nydailynews.com/autos/news/2019-honda-civic-changes-article-1.4042174

"Honda has made what it calls "evolutionary" styling updates to both the coupe and sedan versions of the Civic, with both receiving a new hatchback-inspired look for the front and rear. Up front, there's a new grille and bumper, a full-width splitter (reminiscent of the Civic Type R), chrome side pod accents flanking the lower grille opening and updated halogen or LED headlights."

    https://www.cars.com/articles/civic...-refreshing-the-civic-for-2019-1420701091653/

I have a 2019 EX-L and I have to say that the low beams are lacking and even with the fog lights on, I'd like to see more light. If this was an upgrade, I'd hate to see what the 2018 and prior halogen headlights were like.

One of my very few complaints. Otherwise, I love the car.

I thought they were referring to the LEDs. If I’m not mistaken they said they tweaked them a bit to have better output.

Can you tell me where you read or heard this. All Honda's specs say on their website is "fog lights" not saying what kind.

Thanks for the links. I hadn't found those articles in my search. I'd like to have seen more detail, but if the articles are correct then the headlights should be improved.

I'm sorry to hear that your 2019 EX-L is still lacking. I'll be getting the EX which I assume will have the same headlights.

You could retrofit an HID system, or adjust the aim of the stock headlights to see if that helps. The main weakness according to the IIHS is lack of long distance coverage, adjusting the aim should help improve that.

That's a good suggestion. I'm diligent about dimming my lights when approaching or overtaking a car (plus the Civic has automatic high-beam adjust) so I could push the aim of the highs to a reasonable limit. (I don't know if highs and lows are independently adjustable?)

I took a quick look at replacement LED and HID. They're kind of pricey, plus I'm not too handy mechanically. I could adjust the existing headlights, but I'm not sure what's involved in a full replacement though.

I still get people flashing their lights at me on a regular basis when I am on low beams. Someobdy things they are bright, they must be more effective to the oncoming driver than they are on the raod ahead. :) But I think the 2019 Hatchback is the same as the previous, no upgrades that I know of. I could be wrong. Honda isn't exactly forthcoming about all the chnages they make, are they? Maybe they don't want to risk getting rid of prior year inventory or impacting used sales. Who knows.

Do you have projectors or LED housing headlights? Projectors shouldnt be blinding anyone unless you have them pointed too high

Stock. That's why I'm cautious about doing anything. In all honesty, I have no real complaints about the illumination levels on the road, better than my 2002 Civic. :)

Stock... stock projectors or stock led headlights? There are 2 different stock headlights.
