You'd think an engineer would know the difference between an Imperial gallon and a US gallon. ;)
Guilty!
Darn these obscure units!

So I'm guessing that's City/HWY/COMBINED at 23/33/29 US mpg using the European drive cycle.

I'm just chiming in that I highly doubt the gearing is that low to hurt MPG's that much. This thing tops out at 170. It is probably geared to top out at peak HP (6800) and not redline (7000) so that makes it a straight 40 RPM per MPH conversion. So it would be sitting at 2800 at 70 MPH which is pretty average for a modern 6-speed.

Yes - who knew there were US gallons. :D

Seriously though, if you think that's bad try refuelling an aircraft in various places around the world. I've seen fuel measured in:
US gallons
Imperial gallons
Litres
Pounds
Kilos

And there may even be others. Confusing one unit for another when you're refuelling has more than once resulted in the aircraft lifting off while it's heavier than it's allowed to be at take-off, or even worse the engines suddenly going very quiet while you're cruising along.

Most people do still tend to think of car mileage in terms of mpg in the UK (that's using imperial gallons of course), but we're really meant to be using litres per kilometre now.

How does CTR get WAY worse mpg than a BMW 335i xDrive (a heavy awd system) with 3.0t V-6 300 hp/300 ft-lbs.? I don't get it.
Because it doesn't?

2017 Civic Type R 6MT - 22/28 - 25 combined
2016 335i xDrive 8AT - 20/30 - 23 combined
2015 335i xDrive 6MT - 20/28 - 23 combined

Where do you people come up with this stuff? It takes like 2 minutes to look it up.

Also, BMW doesn't make a V6.

Also, we're not talking about what it gets. We're talking about what it's rated. Which, as you can see by the variance of observed fuel economy in this thread, may or may not mean anything at all. Turns out no one drives in a laboratory...

Probably the same place that's telling them the US price will be $40K, even though Honda itself has said otherwise.

While I'm not impressed with those figures... I've usually gotten better MPGs on my Honda's than EPA rated, with the exception of my CRZ... I'm not buying a CTR for gas mileage anyways...

Wow. Was not expecting such low mileage . My 2015 Si gets 34-37 average fairly consistsntly.
I also have a 2015 Si and I rarely get 36 mpg. Mostly get around 19 mpg driving around 405 and 118 freeway.

But I don't really expect to have a high mpg for the CTR. I'd be flooring it mostly. I'd be lucky to get 19 mpg on it.

SteveGG is gonna come in and rip you guys a new asshole claiming you guys are dumb fucks for buying the Type R due to a 2800 cruise RPM when his LX sits at a comfortable 1700.

That debate and the oil thread was like beating a sock full of dry shit against an oak tree until it was fine dust, then breathing it in.

I'm sure if your doing a lot of highway cruising you can easily get in the low 30's.

Also aero has to do with mpg.

I am also disapppointed at the mpg.

Just looking at the Golf R which if i am not mistaken is heavier and also using awd from time to time
can get better mpg than a type R.
