Personally, I'd consider a very mild tune and possibly an air intake system after the warranty runs out. If I was to pick one of these up.. I might want to keep it for a while and get 100K+ miles of spirited driving out of the car. All while getting 30+ mpg :D
I am going to most likely keep mine stock even out of warranty, from preliminary feedback we've heard its much faster than a 9th gen Si and for me my 9th gen with only 1 bolt on is already plenty fast, I may actually be jumping in a 17' Si much sooner than I anticipated since I have a buyer lined up for my 9th, as early as july/agust :D

I was recently made aware of Honda's testing methodology on this particular motor. And while all manufacturers build headroom into their powertrains, I can say that this one has an unusually high ceiling. And is tested that way in a very high output configuration.

That in no way takes away from the validity of your statements. But the early evidence suggests that these motors can take some abuse. IMHO, the biggest issues from a tune are going to be the clutch, motor mounts, carb deposits on the EGR/valves/runners, and premature sludge accumulation on the OCRs (for those that don't step up the oil change intervals). Anecdotal data will certainly raise other concerns, like the turbo.

After speaking with Doug/Hondata about how these tunes are configured, I'd feel comfortable running a +3 PSI base map. The TQ/HP relationship and most of the factory parameters are preserved, which limits unnecessary stress on the rods at lower RPMs. That said, I don't subject my cars to hot starts, no-lift shifts, or extended pulls at WOT.

CN: Run at your own risk.
I've been very interested in seein how Honda tests their engines. Do you have a link to where you got that info?

Much faster? Motor Trend is estimating a 0 to 60 @ 6.5. And there not even confident about hitting that number. We'll have to see how this plays out. I'm hoping this is at least mid 14 second car.

What will the Civic Si (6MT) do in a 0-60-mph run? We’ll find out soon with an upcoming loan, but for now, it’s safe to say it should handily beat the less powerful but slightly lighter Civic Hatchback Sport’s disappointing 7.5-second performance. It’ll be lucky to get a 6.5-second time. It also has some tough competition in the following:

2017 HONDA CIVIC SI COMPETITOR PERFORMANCE
Year Make Model (transmission) 0-60 1/4-mile @ mph
2015 Ford Focus ST (6MT) 6.3 14.8 @ 94.3
2015 Mini Hardtop Cooper S (6MT) 6.6 14.9 @ 93.5
2015 Subaru WRX (6MT) 5.5 14.0 @ 98.1
2015 Volkswagen Golf GTI (6MT) 6.1 14.6 @ 99.7
2014 Honda Civic Si (6MT) 6.5 15.0 @ 93.5
2013 Honda Civic Si (6MT) 6.1 14.6 @ 95.6
2012 Honda Civic Si (6MT) 6.1 14.7 @ 95.7
2009 Honda Civic Si (6MT) 6.6 15.0 @ 94.0
2007 Honda Civic Si (6MT) 6.3 14.8 @ 94.8
2006 Honda Civic Si (6MT) 6.3 14.9 @ 94.7
2002 Honda Civic Si (5M) 7.6 15.8 @ 88.1
1999 Honda Civic Si (5M) 7.2 15.7 @ 88.4

I also need to do this in my AP2. Hoping Hondata can remedy this (pretty sure I read it can though)

You can definitely turn it off on the factory vehicle. There is a button on the left just like on the 8th and 9th Civics. It does reset each time you turn off the car though. The FlashPro can override that so it is always disabled.

it should be noted to get that 0-60 in the wrx you pretty much need to clutch dump at 5-6k rpm, needless to say the drive train won't be able to cope with too many of those,
on my 12' SI I can pull off a conservative launch with minimal clutch slip / drivetrain shock and still pull off a respectable 6.2-6.3, never really had the urge to fully launch it since its my DD.

Awesome! What dealer did you go with and what price did you agree on? - I'm still waiting in vain till Aug/Sept/Oct to try and get ~$1000 off somehow.
