Number 8 (equipment trim level)

My incoming 'Touring' VIN shows '9' in this field.
On a printout of incoming Civic's I have there is also a '4' and '7' in this field.

On our incoming car numbers 12-17 starts '10 - - - -'. Looks like maybe the Canadian Civic's started numbering at 100,000. Our 2016 HRV also starts '10 - - - -'.
Looks like maybe 'LX' is '5'. This could mean the 'DX' is '4'.

Any EX, EX-L and EX-T owners out there who will share their eighth digit? With or without sensing as it may change the number.

Anybody seen their '2GH' Alliston sequential VIN# start with anything other than '1 - - - - -' or 5 - - - - -'? I'm suspecting the '1' stays in Canada and the '5' is exported to the U.S.A.

How about the Indianna '19X' cars sequential VIN#. Do they start '0 - - - - -'?

My eighth digit on my EX-L without Sensing is a 7. And mine doesn't start with '0 ---' it starts with '19X---'.

So we have an EX and an EX-L both with '7' as their trim level (eighth field). Thought there would be a difference to indicate the leather.

Guessing the EX-T will also be a '7' with the 'FC1' indicating the turbo option.

Aren't these all derivable from the model codes?

FC2E5GEW LX 6MT (2.0) decodes as FC Civic Sedan 2 2.0NA E 6MT 5 LX
FC2F5GEW LX CVT (2.0) decodes as FC Civic Sedan 2 2.0NA F CVT 5 LX
FC2F6GEW LX Sensing (2.0 CVT) decodes as FC Civic Sedan 2 2.0NA F CVT 6 LX Sensing
FC2F7GJW EX (2.0 CVT) decodes as FC Civic Sedan 2 2.0NA F CVT 7 EX (cloth if FC1)
FC2F8GJW EX Sensing (2.0 CVT) decodes as FC Civic Sedan 2 2.0NA F CVT 8 EX Sensing (cloth if FC1)
FC1F3GJW EX-T (1.5T CVT) decodes as FC Civic Sedan 1 1.5T F CVT 3 EX-T
FC1F4GJW EX-T Sensing (1.5T CVT) decodes as FC Civic Sedan 1 1.5T F CVT 4 EX-T Sensing
FC1F7GJNW EX-L (1.5T CVT) decodes as FC Civic Sedan 1 1.5T F CVT 7 EX (leather if FC2)
FC1F7GKNW EX-L Nav (1.5T CVT) decodes as FC Civic Sedan 1 1.5T F CVT 7 EX (leather if FC2)
FC1F8GJNW EX-L Sensing (1.5T CVT) decodes as FC Civic Sedan 1 1.5T F CVT 8 EX Sensing (leather if FC2)
FC1F9GKNW Touring (1.5T CVT) decodes as FC Civic Sedan 1 1.5T F CVT 9 Touring

Thus only EX-LN--Nav is a model code not directly encoded. (An FC1x7 being, by definition, an EX leather vs. the FC2x7.) Don't know Canadian model codes, so can't say where DX fits in, eh. But I bet it does.

Administrator didn't have the trim coding for the eighth field. Are yours from Honda?

Don't see how these model codes fit into the VIN# trim indicator field. There are no 'GW', 'JW', 'JNW' or 'KNW' in the VIN.

So far it looks like DX '4', LX '5', EX '7' and Touring '9'

To think I thought all the bolding would make it clear how they fit in…

Don't have a clue what GW, JW, JNW, KNW encode uniquely besides Navi in an EX-L. Clear they aren't enough digits in the VIN to encode everything. But it appears likely to me that:

3 EX-T (if FC1?)
4 EX-T Sensing (if FC1?)
5 LX
6 LX Sensing
7 EX (cloth if FC1, leather if FC2)
8 EX Sensing (cloth if FC1, leather if FC2)
9 Touring

Do we have ground truth for a Canadian DX with an FC2x4 VIN?

Weird then that the first model off the Indiana line which was a Touring model has a "7" in the #8 digit of its VIN - http://www.civicx.com/threads/2016-...a-plant-updated-w-production-line-videos.536/

If these #'s correspond to digit 8 of VIN, then that should have been a number 9.

No, best guess only on the DX. Based on the reply above all bets may be off. Guess we have to wait for official notice from Honda on this trim field coding.

Entirely possible my supposition that these correspond is wrong.

Just checked all the inventory in the state that shows on the Web. Over 100 '16 Civics. My VIN to model code decode supposition holds. Including FC1F9 Civic Sedan 1.5T CVT Touring. Can't say what to make of the 000001 VIN from Greensburg. We're sure that was a Touring why? Touring-unique external clues: Touring unique wheels? (appears so) LED headlights? (appears so) Chrome door handles? (appears so) Indicator mirrors? (?) Decklid badge? (?)
