So I put my winter wheels and tires on last Sunday as the temperature around here was dipping into the 30’s and I wanted to ceramic coat the oem wheels. I guess it was good timing as the weather channel app predicted 5”-8” of snow today.

As I reported for duty at 0600hrs there was no precipitation yet, soon after the first snowflakes of the season fell. By the time my shift ended, there was approximately 6” of snow on the ground and the CBP CTR was snow covered. It was freezing out, about 29°F and the wind was howling. As it was warming, I carefully cleaned the snow off of it then I jumped into the car and set off on a 35 mile commute home. This would be the first time driving the CTR in the snow and the first time driving a non-4wd vehicle since 2003. Yikes!

I decided to take the backroads home although the plow trucks haven’t been through yet as I knew from working that the major arteries were stop and go traffic with many minor fender benders calls all day. The Yokohama iceGUARD tires were fantastic! Pulling out of my parking space, they grabbed right away and provided confidence. The drive home consisted of speeds between 25mph-35mph with snow continuing to fall, often times pretty heavy. The CTR handled the unplowed curvy backroads just fine. I just short shifted and was smooth on the throttle. I mainly stayed in 3rd/4th gear and averaged 23.5 mpg. My only complaints during the drive home were the other oncoming drivers who insisted on riding in the middle of the roadway.

I have been thinking of picking up an older pilot or CRV to use as my winter car but now since I know the CTR performs awesome with snow tires, I’m leaning toward picking up an S2K! Give me leads if you know of any good S2Ks for sale in and around central Pennsylvania.

Bravo! Getting a s2k is a 100x better than a pilot!

They look good and sound like they performed well for you! I wouldn't try to drive without them. The combination of LSD and snow tire really makes it a capable vehicle. Only thing to watch will be those big plow piles or big snow chunks that might impact the front lip...

BTW I still didn't get my new tires on the wheels. I did order the rings and lug nuts. The car sat in the driveway and I worked from the basement!

Oh - one of my friends is selling a black S2000. Are you interested in black?

Well played.. The right rubber means everything.
So many people disregard the only thing that keeps their car stuck to the road.

Great story on the CTR in the snow. I've been driving my WRX with snow tires through the winters for the last 8 years. I can't imagine driving anything else. I'm also only a slight push of the gas pedal away from ear-to-ear grin educing controlled slides :headbang:

I third this... its mostly tire that keeps people safe in the winter. Awd is a help but nothing impacts safe driving like the driver mod and good winter tires!!

Great set up OP!!!!

Yep agreed. I keep telling people...sure your AWD will help you get going but how are you going to turn or stop? Poorly if on all-seasons.

We had an early snow one year and I didn't get my snow tires on yet. Trying to drive in 2" of snow with summer compound/tread was VERY different from the snow tires. I was honestly shocked how little traction I had. I also had a Mustang at the time and that thing with all seasons did better than my AWD with summer tires.

So I know you were wanting to find a s2k near you, but looks like my local dealer just got in a 2002 s2k with 18k miles for around $18k I think. I would love to pick this up but I already have one and wife would not like me very much if I bought another.

How bad was the paint after all that salt and mud? Did your ceramic coating make it easy to hose down and return to a shiny condition?

Another PA'r checking in. Drove from the suburbs back to Philly last night. Normal commute is usually 50 mins, took me 2 hours.

Had the car on Conti All Seasons. Did just fine (drive was 15-20mph all the way). Hoping this is the heaviest we get in PA but we shall see!
