18x8.5+35 with 245/40R18 will it rub.

Here is my unofficial verdict after test fitting the tire/wheel combo tonight. If you want to go with an 18x8.5 +35-40mm wheel, stick with a 235/40r18. There is not much clearance at all between the tire and the fender. I would be concerned in the front if turning hard and the suspension compresses half an inch or more. I think with the wheels perfectly straight, the negative camber gain will be enough to cause the wheel to lean inward and prevent rubbing when the suspension compresses further. With the wheel cut left or right it may be a different story. I've read of guys running 18x9.5's with similar offset but don't know how that would be possible.

I measured mine out stock, and don't really understand how people are running 9.5" +38 offset without rubbing on turns. Maybe my math is wrong, but you're adding 0.75" (or 19mm) to both the inside and outside of the wheel, and then you're pushing it out another 12mm going from +50 to +38. In total you are pushing the wheel out roughly 31mm or nearly 1.25". When I measure I barely have 0.75" of clearance with my wheel cracked all the way.

I recently purchased (and am still waiting to receive) SSR GTX01's in 18x8.5 +44 offset. With this I'll be pushing the wheels out 12.35mm or about a 1/2", so should be fine on clearance. I won't have the super aggressive look, which kind of sucks, but I don't know how you use the car as your daily with all that rub.

Any insights on this?

I follow you with this. I don't want the risk of rubbing. I've ordered 19x8.5 ET45 which should be safe.
Also it doesn't affect scrub radius that much, which is something to think about.

I can confirm 18x9.5 +40 on 245/40 will rub the inner tab where the screw is located. There is no rubbing while going straight, but hitting dips, or bumps will definitely rub. Too bad :(

So what would be the perfect wheel and tire setup with 18x8.5. I have the Eibach Pro-Kit already installed.

Is it better to go with 18x8 to get an aggressive look?

You can run 18x8.5, just get a less aggressive offset, still with something closer to stock like a +44. 18.5 means that you add a 1/4” to each side of the wheel, or 6.35mm (roughly), with +44 you push the wheel out another 6mm, sonin total you add around a 1/2” and there’s plenty of room for clearance. Once you get over 3/4” - 1” then you have to start worrying about rubbing on turns.

I'm just gonna go with 18x8. As much as I want my Civic to look as aggressive as possible, this is my daily driver and don't want to have problems.

Like I said, I ran 19x8.5 +35 with no issues. No rubbing.

I have 235/35/19 on a 19x8.5 +45. No poke and perfect offset, it fits perfectly imo.
