Luckily, mine was covered under warranty but if you have a moonroof that hasn't been replaced yet (or if you are looking to buy one), it may be worth looking at an extended warranty for $1,000 or so.
My car is a 2016 EX-T with 21,689 miles. I had used the moonroof heavily early on as the weather was nice and I hadn't gotten my Leaf yet, but hadn't used it in awhile and tried to open it and it made a bad grinding sound. Looking at it, it had come out of its rail.
Took it to the dealer and they first saw that the cables were damaged and so ordered that, but once those arrived, they saw that more needed to be replaced.
The parts needed to be replaced:
- Moonroof Frame
- Sunroof Link (L and R)
- Motor Assembly
- RR Clip
Labor: $710.70
Parts: $654.92
Total: $1365.92 (would've been like another $120 in tax for me)
Glad this didn't happen (I'm leasing) in between 36k and 45k lease end.
