Read thru my car insurance policy today. It has some interesting exclusions:
:)
My particular insurance policy doesn't appear to have any exclusions around modifications or improper use of the vehicle. You'd think if I put 10 kids in the car with no seat belts and everybody dies there...
Luckily I'm in CA where for some reason we don't have state inspections.
That's true even with 4 seats. 4x 200 lb people is 800 lbs. Nobody can prove they've never had 4 200 lb dudes in their car.
Not trying to be argumentative. My thought is just that aside from your insurance company...
Personally, I don't care what it's called. Having a family of Civics with the type R engine doesn't make the current one less R.
I never would have guessed so many people would want to remove the AC. Is AC really that heavy?
I think people assume the weight of a moonroof is a lot. It's more like 25 - 30 lbs. It's in a place where extra weight sucks the most, but it's still only 30 lbs.
The possible stiffness reduction may be more of an issue.
I actually like the idea of a big wing, but the current one doesn't do much for me. But if I end up buying an R (still debating) I definitely wouldn't take it off.
I added a couple things people mentioned to the poll...
The hint that there may be a grand touring type R variant coming I wondered people think it should be like. Obviously for the most part any features added to such a trim would increase the price.
There's no way I could include every option someone might want in the poll so feel free to discuss...
You can easily exceed 680 lbs with 4 passengers.
I also have a 5 seat constraint, really bummed this didn't come with the regular 5 seat arrangement. I'm left in a similar dilemma: want to avoid VW and no other current hot hatch really compares.
Maybe they'll add a 5th seat next year.
Well, the major caveat there is the plant capacity. A year ago a friend was considering buying a Honda Fit. The dealer said he was lucky to get one a month and it was sold before it was unwrapped. Honda was too busy making HRV's to keep up with Fit demand.
Will the Type R margin be higher than...
I think a Honda exec blabbed at some point about how many they intended to make per year. It sounded like quite a bit of volume so if that's to be believed it should be around as long as there is demand... and as long as they don't need the factory capacity for regular hatchback demand.
I think it's going to depend a lot on exactly how much power the Si can put down in stock form. If it's in GTI territory it sounds like a win to me. But I need a hatch.
Really interesting to see adaptive suspension at this level. I bet the fully loaded coupe will be a hoot to drive. Much like...
Oof. That could be a bit of a deal breaker for me. I don't know why they would do this, the base hatch is a five seater.
I'm still confused by the lack of a manual parking break. How sure are we that this represents what will go into production.
Coupe, sedan, and hatchback bodies, each with multiple trims, plus an Si variant (most likely), and a hatchback Type R. Do we really expect Honda to add a 3-door hatchback for the few people that like hatchbacks and don't like 5 doors? I know a 3-door is a cooler hatch body but how many...
It's odd that they haven't really said when the Si will arrive. We know a lot more about the CTR.
It's also really unclear whether the Si will be just a slightly punchier Civic or a slightly less punchy CTR. If the Si and CTR are related similar to the Subaru WRX/STI trims then we've got...
