pull the plate and clean the bottom and then drive without it for a while. it won't hurt as the plate is not part of the stucture. Then you might be able to see where its leaking

i would not say its expensive. the hood on my bmw got it. just a dent but in the wrong place to be repaired. the hood was $300 . the total bill was $2100 . painted hood and blended fenders . paint and body work is not cheap if done by a good shop.
