CVTs have a forward clutch to engage drive, it's not a start clutch (thankfully there's a torque converter instead), you can feel it engage when you shift from N to D and the revs drop.

This probably increases wear on your CVT because you're disengaging and the reengaging the clutch pack driving your forward gear
