To get the car on track with the alignment intact and the ability to turn lock-to-lock, I took a little material off the strut clevis flanges, which you can see here: And if anyone is wondering whether that compromises the strength of the flanges, I did some unintended durability testing for...

Did you make the nylon washers, or was that an off-the-shelf size? I'd like to leave the turning radius as-is for the 300+ days a year the car won't be on these wheels, but if it only needs limited a few degrees each way that's definitely an option.

I know just enough about suspension geometry to know...that I don't know for sure here. I've measured ride height as the distance from the wheel center to the fender lip before, but in this case I think you want to look at heights and distances relative to the ground. If you rotated the...

I put the skinny wheels and all seasons back on before I take the car to the body shop, here's what the contact looks like: For whatever reason, the driver's side doesn't contact quite as much. Fortunately, the lip on the wheel that's hitting is reinforcement they added on top of their...

I sent Apex an email asking about the clearance, but I suspect the Apex wheels weren't designed with consideration for additional camber at the knuckle, and their test car had coilovers to allow for additional camber at the top mount. I'll see what they say, these wheels seem like the optimal...

It was hard to get a good look, but ai think the rubbing was just on the back side of the strut, the car probably had over an inch of toe out per side, if I'm lucky getting the toe set to zero will add enough clearance on the back side under full lock to clear. My friend has it on the alignment...

I may end up at 1 degree at the knuckle and the strut bolts flipped to negative. My thought when I put it together last night was that if the strut mounts were in the factory positive position, then if I felt the car needed a little extra camber at the track I could add the extra half-degree or...

I installed the adjustable ball joints last night at -2 degrees camber and moved the top strut mount back to the stock position to hopefully get a net increase of about 1.5 degrees. Side note for anybody doing this, extend the tie rods to toe the front wheels in at the same time. The alignment...

I'm hoping to get the front ball joints tomorrow, get them installed over the weekend and get the car aligned on Monday. As-is, here's how the car sits on the Apex 18x10.5 +47 wheels with stock front suspension/pins pulled, and a hair more rear camber than stock. To get the car back on the...

I've had enough beer this evening to say with some confidence...I'm not sure. For our "dual axis" strut setup, I believe the kingpin angle is measured based on the two ball joints the hub pivots on. Moving the lower balljoint changes that relationship and the kingpin angle, and changing the...

I think it's been addressed elsewhere on the forums (and maybe somewhere in this thread) but I learned why most everyone uses the adjustable lower ball joints instead of camber plates to add negative camber up front. For a stock strut and spring, especially with the pin pulled, some of the...

Any interest in running VIR the first weekend on March with Chin Track Days? I haven't been to VIR in a couple years, I'm itching to get back.

  15. Just picked up FL5 wheels for my SGP FK8 and have some questions!

A 285/30R19 would provide some additional protection for the wheel and be within 0.1" of the stock 245/30R20 tire O.D. In various cars in the past I've run a 245/40 on an 8" wheel, 275/40 on a 9" wheel, and a 305/30 on a 10.5" wheel, all with no issues, so I don't think a 285 on a 9.5" wheel...

Taking advantage of the black Friday sales, ordered a set of Ballade Sport front camber plates, some Wunderladen rear toe links, and Whiteline rear camber arms from Unity Performance. I really want to order a set of forged Apexes, but I don't think they're in the budget unfortunately.

Chin Track Days, not counting the morning warm-up session each day has - 40 minute morning session - 30 minute morning session - 30 minute afternoon session - 30 minute afternoon session - hour long "happy hour" combined session for all three run groups. The two main grooves are still there...

That sounds about right. I have 3 weekends on my front V730s, unfortunately I think the outside shoulders are about toast. With adequate camber (hoping to address that this winter) I'd say they would have at least an extra weekend left. I usually shoot for 8-9 sessions a weekend (30-40 minutes...

He's got at least two sessions of fuel in the back ;) I've seen 6-7.5 gallons of fuel use a session on a stock drivetrain/fuel system.
