I was once pulled over doing 35 in a 25 zone. Let me off with a warning. At the time, the car was bone stock, which i conveyed to the officer. I think that helped. Probably my age as well (being in my 50s).
Back in December 2017 when i bought my 2018 CTR, i paid $6,000 over MSRP, and that was considered a "good deal" back then. As the popularity of the platform fades (and it will, eventually), prices will begin to drop. Of course, by then, something else might capture your interest. It is the way...
From what i understand, two of the biggest sources of thermal load are:
1) the turbo (which is cooled by both coolant and oil)
2) the cooling of exhaust gases just before the turbo in the exhaust manifold (for emissions reasons)
Because of #2 above, thermal load in the coolant can climb...
One of my first upgrades for my (primarily street driven) FK8 was an aftermarket (Koyo) aluminum racing radiator, and an aftermarket grill to allow better airflow. An HKS Oil Cooler is probably one of my next. "Heat is the Enemy"
Does the OEM filter clear the aluminum undertray?
I only ask as the HKS thermostat (sandwich adapter) looks to add at least an inch or so of height for the filter.
Thanks for the response @jonnys_honda. Your timing is actually perfect. I'm still considering the HKS coilovers at this point. Glad to hear they've held up well....I'd expect nothing less than that from HKS.
How much "street driving time"does your Type R see vs. track time? (Perhaps...
@jonnys_honda : Any longer-term thoughts on the HKS Hipermax MAX IV SP coilovers for the Type R?
My Type R is no longer my DD, and I tend to favor stiffer suspension on my high-performance street cars. I'm O.K. losing the ability to change the suspension settings via the FK8 drive mode (but I...
I found an internet article on California sound laws and found it amusing they used an image of the stock Type R exhaust tips: https://www.thedrive.com/news/25799/california-is-so-tired-of-your-cars-loud-fartcan-that-they-will-now-fine-you-for-it
I've searched this entire thread about experiences with the Greddy Supreme SP (2-tip), and haven't found much.
I'm considering the Greddy 2-tip vs the HKS Legamax. I'm looking for guidance on how they compare.
I'm looking to swap in an aftermarket exhaust that is only slightly louder than...
FWIK, once Jailbroken, it can't be reversed. I'm sure even if you reflash to OEM specs, I'm sure Honda ECU scanners will confirm the ECU has been "compromised", and likely void your warranty.
@procivic: Is Hondata still doing the "remote clone" option if I'm willing to purchase a 2nd ECU?
FWIK, in that process, because the customer "harvests" the OE ECU image via Flashpro (a read-only operation), then sends that data to Hondata electronically (via email?), Hondata can send the 2nd...
A general observation here: when you sign up for aftermarket parts ( no matter how well designed and fitted ) you accept the risk that the fitment *will not* be as good as the OEM, as the aftermarket manufacturer (by definition) does not have control over all aspects of tolerance and fitment...
Mine just arrived today at about 12:15p local time. I was expecting to wait another week or two based on what Mishi indicated on the phone. I'm excited to unpack it this evening.
Please PM me the info on the forum discount (if still applicable), and the part number for the correct-size red "H" badge. I have a 2018 Civic Type R, and I'd rather not try to transfer my existing badge from the factory grill, even if it fits (which I understand it does not).
