Exactly Design ... the car lacks "Jump" simply because of the 1.5L "before pressure builds" .. it essentially feels like a Fit .. an that ain't good for a Sporting automobile !!!
the rest is good (very good in some areas) but the engine needs more capacity !!
"My name is Jason Fenske. I am a graduated mechanical engineer from North Carolina State University. As a YouTube partner under the name EngineeringExplained, I make video lessons on automotive engineering topics. I am interested in the evolution of technology in the automotive industry, and I...
There's always a starting point in design objective in all cars, called the concept phase ... And this fact is very relevant with this new Civic platform and indeed the Si's DNA ..
Dunno if any of you fan boys recall the launch of the new Civic, Honda publicly revealed that an Audi A3 platform...
Agreed ... the FA/FG series '06 - '11 years to me now seem like an exception to the SI - Sports Inspired corporate mandate for this class of car ... more like an aberration of the typical Civic Si formula going all the way back to '87 through to '04
This conclusion partly resulted in me selling...
Thanks for your first impressions ... here's mine on first drive of the Coupe ... Honda let me drive it on my own (comparing to my own '07 '10 and '13 Si's) .. and yes i pushed it best i could in 4pm traffic !!
- Clutch is wayyyy too light, almost thought something was wrong, and take-up was too...
Whereas in the FK2 comparative video the driver was visibly reacting to the more lively rear motions of the live axle
and having to correct to calm it down ... as the development team engineers explained.
I predict faster times from the FK8 ... especially seeing that Honda is public about all...
who agrees that this particular Driver and Run for record shows a very Relaxed pilot .... i suspect the team told him to
tackle the record in this way ... leaving more times on table with aggressive attempt.
...... car is eminently stable and responsive at limit!! bEauTIful !!
correct .. except for a few influencing details
- wider track
- independent rear setup ... big deal and you can see the FK2 driver working harder to keep the rear calm
- better torsional stiffness ... always improves rubber contact with road
- rear design allows more laminar flow and less speed...
it was all about stability and poise at high speed ... they simply learned all the things that made the FK2 slower
and overcame them without any change in Power Output ... Result is a true Sportscar platform and one that
has been developed with great attention to detail in chassis dynamics and...
No Tweaking here !! ... this is a Record run ...
- Roll Bars
- Recording gear
- Single Driver .. fully suited it seems
- lowered 'R' stance
- smoke from the tyres (brit spelling)
- serious driver expression
body is also much lower ... Sport Button pushed !!
I expect a GTI Clubsport beat on the time .. but very close on a Stock setup like they did with the FK2
Things to note that make it better ...
- dual axis front suspension from Type-R
- significantly more accessible power / torque
- lighter by a teenagers weight - Good!
- slightly better F/R weight bias
probably 2-3secs quicker at Mosport ...
and Honda kindly left a bit of meat on the table for...
Italian cars .... they say that Honda had a close look at the Alfa-Romeo GTV coupe back when they designed the 8th Gen ... very similar in weight and wheelbase
Anyone else chime in? That has a accord sport and can verify what im talking about? I know 2 other people that purchased a 17ex-t with a manual trans and they say the same thing i do.. Albeit only 1 is on here and the ither is a good friend..
Thanks!
Briefly drove the EX-T CVT and the Hatch...
